Matty Knights to coach Essendon
« on: August 29, 2007, 12:26:19 PM »
According to SEN, Knighter's name keeps being bantered about for the Essendon gig. The Bombers rate him highly.

Sounds like their plan if Bomber Thompson stays with Geelong. Maybe they are thinking they had so much success with a former Richmond captain we'll replace him with another one lol.

EDIT: And I dont "know" it, its simply my opinion of where he has been so far.  :thumbsup

He's only coached VFL and another country team I think(?).

Neither went crash hot, of course that is not always the coaches fault.

But I am of the thinking mostly to be a successful AFL coach you need to be an assistant first to get acclimatised so in that aspect I dont think he is ready and would need to be an assisstant first.

I'd love to see him prove me wrong though.  :thumbsup

Didn't Knights coach a SANFL club before coaching a VFL side for a few seasons
If his name is comming up then he has the credentials to coach any AFL side
He was a very good leader lMO he could be a good choice
best of luck to him if he does get the gig  :clapping

Port Adelaide Magpies (2004) 20 Games, 7 Wins, 13 Loses,
Port Magpies thought Knighter was a bit of a dud as coach and sacked him but Essendon apparently do rate him highly based on his work at Bendigo. Making the VFL finals has probably pushed Knighter's name forward but he hasn't had an assistant coaching role where most senior AFL coaches now come from.

With Andy Collins heading off to West Adelaide, would anyone like to see Matty Knights return and become Coburg coach if he misses out on the Essendon senior coaching gig?

Sir Matty Knight to coach Coburg next year. If so bring on 2008. So bring him back.
It would be great to have a real champion back, who should never have left in the first place, about the place again.
Plus it would give Browny someone to get real captancy advice from.  :gotigers
