Richmond captain Trent Cotchin will be sidelined for another fortnight.

Cotchin is nursing a hamstring injury in his troublesome left leg, but Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said the latest injury was in a different location to the previous two strains that have forced him to miss eight matches this season.

“If he hadn’t had his previous history, he probably [would have] missed this week and played next,” Hardwick said.

“Look, it’s disappointing – his first 15 minutes in the game was incredible. Once again, these things can change depending on how his recovery is going … but as I said … it’s a one-week injury.”

From Barrett's 'Sliding Doors' column:

IF ... Rance has taken away the Tigers' stresses attached to a potential return in 2019 ...

THEN ... fret still remains over the timing of Cotchin's comeback game. Round 23 looms as too soon, given that would be just a three-game break from his latest hamstring problem, which by the end of this weekend will already have caused him to miss half the season.

Cotchin will miss his second straight match with his third hamstring setback of the season, and is set for a big session on Sunday morning to prove his fitness to face West Coast in round 22.

"I think he's highly likely to play next week," coach Damien Hardwick said before training on Friday.

"If he hadn't had the previous history, he'd be playing this week, but we'll always be more conservative with those type of guys."

Balmey saying something without saying much again lol. If Cotch trains this week and the hammy feels fine then he plays. It's not out of the question he may have to wait another week.

---------------------

“There’s an element of roll the dice (with playing Cotchin),” Balme told 7NEWS.

“It’s a hammy he’s had before.

“If he trains well during the week and feels good about it, we’ll play him.

“If not, we can still wait another week if we need to.”
