Gotta admit I shed a tear. What a journey its been with Cotch and Dimma. Going to be hard to say goodbye when he retires.

What a star. At one of the kids footy clinics at Punt Road just before COVID, Cotch came up and chatted to my nephew and I afterwards. He gave young James a hair toussle, too. James is playing his first club game tomorrow, so I'm a bit of a proud aunty at the moment (well, always). Anyway, he's been touched by the hand of Cotch, so he's going to go great. :)

If these last 2 games are what happens when you play him in the middle where he belongs, then I’m not so sure he’s done like most of us were thinking about a month ago.

So glad I got to watch his 300th in person, got drenched standing by the boundary applauding him getting chaired off but was 1000% worth it. Absolute immortal of our club  :bow :bow :bow

'Cotch' winds back the clock

It was always going to be a big night for Trent Cotchin as the club celebrated his 300th game, but the guest of honour wasn't about to sit back and leave the work to everyone else. Cotchin came out with a spring in his step reminiscent of his youth and had 19 disposals and two goals to half-time, his first savoured by everyone wearing yellow and black at the 'G. The 33-year-old finished with 29 disposals, on the back of 28 last round, suggesting he isn’t going to leave anything in the tank when he finally calls it quits … whenever that may be.

29 disposals (18k, 11h, 15c, 13u, 65.5% eff.)
4 marks (1 contested mark)
5 tackles
5 clearances (4 centre clearances)
5 inside 50s
491 metres gained
7 intercepts
7 score involvements
2 goals
1 behind
71% time on ground

What a champion,

Had a bit of a chuckle reading the first few pages of this thread.

Lucky we didn’t pick Kreuzer.

not the popular opinion on here going back a few weeks ago  but he deserves and should get another year. Has played more good games than not.

would rather cotch than HRS any day.

Been feeling the same, also about Jack.

If we do it then we would need to be finding replacements and aiming to only play them 12-15 games IMO

Considering our shyte draft hand it might well be prudent to hold off on all the retirements for one more year. :shh

How interim coach McQualter has revitalised 300-gamer Cotchin (Nine)

"It's the best game I've seen him play in over 12 months." - Matthew Lloyd

The Andrew McQualter move that helped Trent Cotchin get back to his best for his 300th – and the man who enjoyed the milestone more than anyone else...

HOW INTERIM COACH MCQUALTER HAS REVITALISED 300-GAMER COTCHIN

Lachlan Geleit
SEN
18 June 2023

Richmond great Trent Cotchin starred in his 300th game on Saturday night helping the Tigers to a 90-70 win over the Saints at the MCG.

In his best statistical outing this year, Cotchin collected 29 disposals, kicked two goals and had five clearances.

After starting the year as a half forward, the 33-year-old has moved back on-ball under interim coach Andrew McQualter which has seen him recapture some of his best footy.

Having attended zero centre bounces against Essendon in Round 10 and Port Adelaide in Round 11, Damien Barrett highlighted a stat that shows Cotchin has attended an average of 18.6 centre bounces across the last three weeks.

He discussed Cotchin’s uptick in form and changed role with Matthew Lloyd on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.

Lloyd: “It’s the best game I’ve seen him play in over 12 months.

“Damo you wanted to highlight a statistic?”

Barrett: “I do because that Essendon game was the last one Damien Hardwick coached.

“Then you’ve got the Port Adelaide game which was the first of Andrew McQualter’s reign and he continued what was happening there.

“But for the past three matches, which have resulted in Richmond wins, he has been back to doing what he does best in the middle.”

Lloyd: “That’s what coaches do, make the mistake of taking players away (from their preferred role).

“I can understand Damien Hardwick doing what he was doing, maybe he thought the game has gone past Trent and needing to develop others like (Tim) Taranto and (Jacob) Hopper.

“But maybe Hopper’s injury has allowed him (Cotchin) to go back in there (the midfield).

“He looks right at home.”

So does he stay in the guts when Hopper returns? :shh

I can see why he won’t be part of the rotation schedule, but it’s not my call

I feel like one of dusty and Bolton should always be in the middle as they provide that break away acceleration that our other mids don’t provide. Then the other 2 spots are rotated between TT, Hopper, Prestia and Cotch.

That’s a 6 mid rotation. Surely that’s no different to the number other clubs are running.

Short is out of there now and back in defense.

I think it's obvious:

Taranto/Hopper
Cotchin/Prestia
Bolton/Martin
Go Tigers!
