Richmond and St Kilda both expressed interest in Blake, with Saints football development manager Tony Elshaug saying the club was intent on gaining another ruckman.

"Everyone is convinced you need two strong ruckmen to win a premiership," he said.

"If you aren't looking down that road, you've got to have something else special going in your team."

Richmond football director Greg Miller said the Tigers remained unsure about Blake's intentions.

The Saints may save us by getting Blake instead.

Saints move for ruckman Blake
Stephen Rielly | October 9, 2007

ST KILDA moved straight to the heart of a heated market for ruckmen yesterday by offering a three-year contract to Geelong's Mark Blake that, financially, is likely to be beyond the premiers to match.

Blake is yet to decide if he will leave behind the disappointment of his 11th-hour omission from the premiership team for a new start but the Saints signalled their intention yesterday to make that decision easier rather than harder with their offer, which is understood to be in excess of $800,000 over the three years.

"Like a lot of clubs we're looking to bolster our ruck division. With a young ruckman like Mark Blake considering his future, we're putting St Kilda at the forefront," said football operations manager, Ken Sheldon.

The Cats told clubs on the opening day of trading yesterday that Blake is required at Geelong.

Whether the Saints are prepared to go as far as offering their first-round selection (pick nine) to Geelong for Blake was unclear last night but they were conceding that they will need to trade given the interest from Richmond, among others, in the follower.

The Tigers, with first pick in the pre-season draft, have another option available to them. Richmond's director of football, Greg Miller, met Blake's agent Anthony McConville yesterday afternoon.

Cats failed Blake, says dad
09 October 2007   Herald Sun

Blake will tell Geelong coach Mark Thompson his decision before boarding a flight to Bali today with his premiership teammates.

His teammates are adamant he'll stay, meaning he will reject more lucrative offers from St Kilda and Richmond, among others.

St Kilda's Tony Elshaug said yesterday the club was determined to snare a ruckman and hadn't ruled out Blake's teammate Steven King.

The Tigers will today speak to Blake's manager, Anthony McConville, and will try to convince Blake to nominate for the pre-season draft, where the Tigers have the No. 1 selection.

"We're interested in him, yes," Miller said last night.

"But I think they (the Cats) believe Blake will stay with them."

Has Richmond actually seen him play, or do they just think 'he's from Geelong, he must be good'???

Everyone on the ground these days needs to be able to kick and get possessions.
And you may not think I care for you
