Richmond would be left without compo if Alex Rance walked away from the gameJay Clark

June 6, 2015 6:49pmRICHMOND would be better off losing Alex Rance to another club than if he walked away from the game.
The Tigers would almost certainly receive a first-round draft choice as free-agency compensation if Rance, 25, accepted a big-money offer to go elsewhere.
The compensation pick would immediately follow the club’s first live pick in this year’s draft, giving the Tigers selections No.11 and No.12 based on ladder positions before the start of this round.
But a decision to walk away from the game entirely, something Rance is believed to be considering, would leave the Tigers empty-handed.
While Rance feels a strong sense of loyalty to Richmond, and is widely expected to recommit at Punt Rd, Brisbane Lions and Fremantle have expressed strong interest in the gun backman.
The Dockers are chasing a prime big man from a group of potential candidates including Gold Coast’s Charlie Dixon, Carlton’s Lachie Henderson and Essendon swingman Jake Carlisle.
It was suggested Rance, who is from Western Australia, could be given one year off as part of his next contract, either at Richmond or another rival.
But the Herald Sun has confirmed Rance has not asked for a one-year paid holiday from the Tigers or any other club.
It has not been raised in discussions between Rance and his management or the Tigers, the club confirmed.
Richmond declined to comment on the record.
If Rance stays in football, he will honour every season for the length of his next contract.
