Rance looks in mint condition
He looks huge , best condition
Did a series 500m against the clock today
He has had plenty of miles into those legs
is he turning corners though or straight lines?

If he's not confidently trying lateral movements at this stage (or close to) he's almost certainly not playing finals.

Does the Agility ladder side weaving quicker than anyone
Hopefully ball in hand next week

Hardwick also fielded the obligatory Alex Rance will-he-or-won't-he-return-this-season question, saying the club's medical staff would make a "calculated decision" with the long term in mind.

He is yet to issue a deadline on when the five-time All Australian would need to have sufficiently recovered from the anterior cruciate ligament setback he sustained in round one.

"That's something we haven't given real consideration, because most players who do an ACL, you sort of look to the front end of next year," Hardwick said.

"We'll work our way through that if it becomes a realistic possibility … we're not opening the door but we're not closing it, either."

I think it's looking increasingly unlikely.

Looking increasingly as if it’s what they said a month after he did the injury. He’s a mile ahead of schedule and a small but reasonable chance of playing again this year...

Gee man it's another title at a flag.

I would say 10/90 against but imagine dance as an inclusion week 2 of finals

They might as well hand us the cup. The energy when dusty signed went up a notch but I reckon a rance inclusion would better that

It's up to the doc and if reports are correct it's a negative

I'd love it though

No, don't risk it.

Imagine 5 minutes into a final and he goes down again, we're one short and the players would be shattered.

I reckon he will play.

I know it’s a risk but if a premiership is up for grabs and he is ready to go, why not?

We might not be in a position next year, so imo it’s definitely worth the risk.

Said it before and haven't change my mind

Don't risk it. The risk is too great

Doc Larkins who I have great respect for said the graft to heal completely and be at the right strength takes 9 months.

It hasn't been 9 months.

Good news is Alex's surgeon is the best in the business in Julian Fellar (sp?) and the club has made it clear they will be guided by him

A premiership is up for grabs and he could be the difference.

Hypothetic question-
Would you take a premiership this year and lose Rance for next year?
Or would you forgo that premiership for him and us to “maybe” be in contention next year?

The other hypothetical question would be what if we play Rance and in the first final he does his knee again? We are then one man down for the game and the deflating effect that would have for the team in that game and the rest of the final series would be immense.... :shh

The only counter to that point is that if he is cleared by doctors to play then hypothetically that could happen to anyone who has been injured, we shouldn’t just react because it’s Rance and a knee reco.
The doctors clearing him to play is the only logical way to justify playing him.
If we look at Cotchin as a more extreme version of the above logic, does his third hamstring now rule him out for the entire season?
No matter how minor the hamstring tear, there is now a big risk that it reoccurs.

So, it’s up to the medicos, the  match committee and then the player to decide whether he plays again this season.

My only other counter is that if the above happens and he does play, we are effectively one man up due to his extraordinary play and leadership.

He might just win us a final or a GF if he does play...

“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

He should come in week 2 or 3 of finals.
