Sorry love Rance, but his season this year has gone downhill since that diving incident. Become a liability playing on any forward one on one even a average one at best.If you guys can't see that were watching different games.Getting in bad habits again to.Get back to basics and defend first.
Definitely watching a different game georgie.
When you have players like Bellis and Houli that cannot defend to save themselves, than someone has to pick up the slack and try and do more than stop just his own opponent.
Throw Astbury in there who can only really defend in the air, and it really only leaves Rance, Grimes and Vlastuin as defenders that can actually defend and attack at a good level.

With the likelihood of Bellis never getting a game again for us and Houli near the end, we can rectify their deficiencies fairly easily with players we already have on our list. Which will allow Rance and Co not have to try and do it all.

You can’t have it both ways though- he is the best backman this club has ever had and in the discussion for the best backman of all time- he is so damaging because he does leave his man and help others. That’s the point.
He puts his reputation in the line every time he does that stuff but he doesn’t care because he has the bigger picture in mind. It’s just a shame some people like you would rather criticise him for being out of position on accasions with his direct opponent because he is thinking more about helping his teammates than just stopping his opponent.
Grimes and Vlastuin are the same to a lesser extent but they and Rance are the reason our backline has worked so well in recent years. Not your Bellis’, Holui’s or Astbury’s.

Each to there own.Don't come and tell me his always peeling of and helping others and that's the reason why he gets beaten. When he plays man on man that is the issue. How many one on one battles does Grimes loose ? or even Broad ?.Can't even remember.

I don't think Rance had a great year. Definitely nothing like his last 2-3 years. Solid at best, but was nowhere near his peak... I hope it's just a hiccough...

Rance and most of our defenders often got caught trying to do too much this year. They need to tone it down a touch imo and stop stretching themselves so thin. Its one of the reasons why we copped so many cheap easy goals throughout the year. Dont get me wrong, still the best defence in the league by a long way but it can be even better!
Rance has definitely been down this year compared to the past 2-3 years. Havent seen him look so off balance in marking contests for years - since the gumby years. Hopefully he does some work on it during preseason to strengthen that side of his game again

lmfao at this thread.
Rance has become a great defender but he has always had his weaknesses. He has never been great at one v ones in fact hes always been ordinary. But its when he is on the move that he becomes a top player.

Did you watch last years finals series or were you too upset that you couldn’t come on here and spread your usual negativity?

Rance returned to training this week refreshed from an extra week’s break.

Leppitsch lauded his 2018 season despite the Tigers giving up eight contested marks to Mason Cox in the preliminary final.

“He has come back in really good shape and he has put the season behind him — the good and the bad,’’ he said.

“He is super important to us. He is the classic one with focusing on the 95 per cent he did well, not the five per cent that went wrong.

“He saved the day for us so many times through the year.”

Those one on ones are primarily a function of good supply up the field. I agree that it isn’t a towering strength but seriously no one was stopping the ridiculously easy i50 entries the pies were getting in the prelim
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
