I am happy to say that, while Brett has heaps of potential and is possibly our best young player, there are others on our list who may vie for that title. Unlike when Ottens left and we seemed to have no one to replace his talent, I don't believe we are in the same position with Brett.

Having said that, I don't want him to leave and I agree that we should to everything reasonable to keep him. It would be great to sign him early and end speculation.

Richmond must sign Brett Deledio till 2012. We have no choice.

We always have a choice.
If Deledio plays to his potential, the contract will take care of itself but he's got some work ahead of him before he can be considered an elite footballer.
Agree - we're getting ahead of ourselves.

I think he should be resigned and quickly. He has shown more than Tambling has ever shown and his contract has been renewed.
So if we let the better of the two, walk we are the idiot, and we will be giving another team a ready made player once more.

I think Tambling's a good example of why you should wait and see how he develops. If say he has a good year, sign him up half way through it. You sign him now and he could end up another Andrew Raines.  Remember we signed hiim after a few good games and he seems to be in a comfort zone at the moment or he just isn't up to it  :(

If Richmond loses Deledio we are finished as a club.

Yeah right!  I think you panic too much.

Just remember a talented youngster by the name of Nathan Buckley who long ago chased dollars & premierships elsewhere when his club appeared to be struggling..

Whilst he went on to have a glittering career, that team he left in his wake went on to win 3 premierships and he won none.

One footballer does not make a club.
True.

Leigh Colbert is another example. As captain bailed from Geelong to chase a flag with reigning premiers North just after their last flag. The 90's Roos era was over though and they fell away with the Carey episode and all while Geelong slowly rebuilt themselves on and off field and claimed a flag 7 years later. The Cats also lost another captain in Ben Graham during that period.

I see Deledio as important to RFC as Kouta or Hird have been for Carlton/Essendon the last 15 odd years.

Doesn't make the club, but the marquee standout.

Colbert and Graham were handy but both battlers.

Not no.1 draft picks who could carry a club for 10 years+

Colbert was still a top 20 pick and played far more games than Hernaman who we picked up at pick 7  :P.

dont want Deledio to leave.

he is not our best player.

2 weeks ago he was only 20 yoa. He is averaging 25 clas touches a game, marks and goals without playing to anywhere near his full abilty.

He has the potential to be the best player on the list and one of the top 5 in the AFL.

Must sign him long term.
