Out of Contract Players

Heard on SEN tonight coming home there was a list of who's out of contract in one of the papers on the weekend.  Does anyone know which paper it was in?

Herald Sun , forget what day though.
Contracts dont mean much these days, There would be some players who are contracted who probably want a fresh start somewhere else and would come to an agreement with the club or clubs concerned

According to the Hun:

Out of contract

Fletcher, Hilton, Houlihan, Hyde, D.Kellaway (ret.), Marsh, Nicholls, Newman, Ottens, Pettifer, Rogers (ret.), Stafford, Zantuck.

So that leaves (based on what we had):

2005

Archibald Blumfield Bowden Cambo Chaffey Fiora Fleming Gilmour Hall Hartigan Jackson Johnson A.Kellaway Krakouer Morrison Newman Raines Roach Rodan Schulz Tuck Weller

2006
Gas Richo Tivs

2007
Brown Cogs

I'm not sure where they got their info from. I thought Krakouer, Blumfield and Fleming were out of contract.

As for the other clubs' lists. Seemed to be a mix of stars who each Club would be mad to let go (eg: Luke Ball, Cameron Bruce, Jude Bolton), fringe players/duds and blokes near retirement.

I think Jackie's research is a case of near enough is good enough - as she proved last week (refer to OTP) ;D

Going by what Greg Miller said on Club Corner last night, you get the feeling that we won’t turn over as many players as we did last season.

If things turn out that way, it will most likely be because players are still contracted.  And rather than pay out players, who may not get picked up by other Clubs, they will be retained on the list.

The thing I find frustrating is that, all of a sudden, we are giving some of these players a go now.  Our season finished after round 2 and some of these players have had up to 4 seasons to prove themselves.  So instead of giving young players a game or two we give players who have been there for several years a go. :banghead

Houlihan gets a game and doesn’t even play 40 minutes.  Marsh, dditto.  If he hasn’t got a game up until now then what difference is another 1 or 2 going to make to his chances?

I think Weller will be retained, because he has had injuries throughout the season, but also because this is his first season here.

Someone asked about Tuck and Miller said that, while he was good in and under player, his decision making needed some work. :-\

There has to be more to it than that, because you could say the same thing about a number of our players and at least Tuck goes in and gets the ball, which the caller pointed out.

Greg Miller was also asked about the number of left footers in team.  From his response, we could expect to see some changes, mainly down back.
