If Knights is such a loyal servant of the tigers he will come back. He will hone his skills and come back when the time is right. Probably In three years time when we screw over our latest coach.
Wouldn't it be the ultimate irony if was Campbell who took over as coach of Richmond for 3 years then Knights came back to Richmond and took his job

Everyone was wrong about Matty Knights except the Essendon hierarchy. It was one of the biggest shock appointments I've seen given he was replacing the biggest coaching shoes in AFL in Sheeds (based on years of service).

How did Essendon get it so right? He was in their system and they knew first hand what he was capable of.

And that speaks volumes to me. Matthew Knights was in the Bombers system and not ours because Wayne Campbell stabbed him in the back. Whether the club didnt want to groom him or whether he was so jarred at how the club treated him, the fact is that along with Malthouse & Sheedy, the club has yet again let another potential premiership coach slip out of its structure.

I have no doubt at this point Knights will be a successful coach. He has no fear, he backs himself, his tactics and his team, and he isnt afraid to talk straight.

It makes me loathe the people that run this club no end that they're too busy infighting, politicking and leaking decade after decade to break the vicious circle. Knights has been lost to us for the same reason Malthouse was.

And that is why Campbell will not make it as a coach at Tigerland because the supporters will 'eat' him as they have others before him.

Sorry mate, I mistook you for X.

Let me explain. And since X is no longer a member and you are not X, I am not breaking any site rules by the following summary.

Now I don't know how long you were reading this site for before you mustered the energy to sign up, but it seems quite a while. X was a strange character. Part village idiot, part village people. A flamboyantly gay, angry midget who used to frequent these parts.

Once again, my sincere apologies. Thank god for everyone that you are not X.

 :lol

I think X once described himself as the perfect physical specimen
But he would wouldn't he lol
If he is I am too  :nope

maybe you two are perfect for each other  :rollin :lol :rollin :lol

LMAO X.

youve gotta be kidding 1980

Knights has done what he had to do and paid his dues as a coach, he failed at port adelaide and failed at the bendigo bombers as well. One thing he did do though was learn from his failures, he is a much better coach now from learning his trade at different environments than if he stayed at Richmond.

If Knights is such a loyal servant of the tigers he will come back. He will hone his skills and come back when the time is right. Probably In three years time when we screw over our latest coach. Hopefully people wont be hammering Knights ( just like you have Malthouse and Sheedy ) for not coming back and rebuilding richmond, when you and I both know that having the right infrastructure around the coach is just as imprtant as having the right coach. By infrastructure I mean strong board, great development prgramme, elite facilities and elite recruiting network, basically I mean $$$$$$$$. The bombers have money and up until this year we didnt. So basically when you add that to our poor culture we had/have no chance.

I hope and prey he makes a success of his career at essendon. If he does that it will be one for the hsitory books, I cant remember a player from a perenially unachieving club going on to beoming a premiership coach. Would be a huge story and good luck to him.

YOu cant blame Campbell for that. And I hate Campbell

I've got nothing but admiration for Knights for doing it the hard way and nothing but contempt for Campbell for not.

I'm sure the issues between us and Knights go beyond Campbell and the captaincy. We think we're still such a big club and that everyone wants to coach us and why would we bother grooming someone like Knights? From what I remember we also scorned Malthouse when he was starting out and he never forgot it.

Cant hold it against Malthouse for not coming back to coach us or Knights if he never does. It was up to the club to see the coaching potential and groom them. Expecting them to come back after they've proven themselves and show loyalty when we've given none out is naive.

oh ok, I get it, so we scorned Knighter by not offering him a role with the club yet you have nothing but contempt for campbell because we offerered him one...umm, makes sense ::)

Congratulations to Matty Knights on the way the Bombers are playing this year.

I think he is a good young coach and has his team playing very well.

I would love to see him coach at the Tigers at some stage.

However, I don't think it will happen for the following reasons;

A. I believe he is very bitter about the way he was treated at Richmond by Frawley and the clubs support of Spud decisions.
B. Not being offered any sort of coaching role with the club when he decided to get into coaching.
C. The vitriol heaped on his coaching of the Bendigo side (who to be fair weren't particularly successful with him as coach) by tigers supporters
D. Fear of the way our supporters will treat another rebuild (which will have to happen)

IMO we have a better list than the Bombers. I hope we can find a coach who can develop the list that we have at our disposal.

i find this issue of supporters eating coaches at Richmond a complete joke. all it needs is for 1 coach to come in and get rid of who ever is not going to be part of the next premiership assault. It needs to be done over 2 years and not more than 2 years. Wallace made the mistake of not gutting the joint early enough and starting again. The new coach, if he does that has a chance at changing the culture. Richmond is a losing culture, we dont have winners at Richmond, the only winner is Cousins and hed be just about the only exception to my call of sacking every player who is not going to be there when it counts. The second issue is the club clearly has issues with its development of coaches, they need to find the money, hire 3 or 4 development coaches and give more time to each players development.

it makes me sick, it makes me cry when i see our Matthew Knights at Essendon. come home Matthew, we still love you!

i can't believe we treat our Champions with such respect. saying that, Richardson should go out on his own terms!

I know the Bombers made the finals but I'm still surprised they extended Knighters' contract by 2 whole years so he's got another 3 years to go. No Lloyd, Lovett and Lucas (although he was finished) and they scrapped into the top 8 with just 10 wins and were flogged by almost 100 points in the elimination final. No doubt they improved quite a bit but are they getting ahead of themselves just a touch. I could see them missing the finals next year if Neagle and Gumbleton don't stand up for most of the season.

MT Essendon Football Club and their board have progressed nicely to Stage 6 after two years of the Post Sheeds era. What the f*** anger 1 took place during season 2008. Remember their 100 point loss to a crap team like St Kilda in rd 22 2008. But remember now that the retirements of club stalwarts are taking place the rot is settling in just outside Windy Hill and looking for a nice spot to get cozy for the next 20 years :lol :rollin :lol

Stage 6 What the f***/anger2.
Surely we cannot be that bad surely we can't keep
losing the way he have been. After all we managed to coax blokes from the VFL who have failed already in their attempts at AFL football to come back and play AFL football. That in itself is a top 6 job isn't it? The guys we have recruited are really good why do we keep losing? Our coach has good intentions. This is so mind boggling. I just can't fathom as to why we are not winning. We are not poo. With a bit of luck things will change I am sure of that. We are better than a 5-17 side I will tell you that, stuff what anyone says. Its time to fly the flag for the footy club what's the talk back hotline for SEN?
