I have high hopes for Dean Putt as well as a potential full forward. How was his game?

Can anyone tell us if they saw any of the coburg game and what they thought of Collins, Rance and Conners.

Collins was very today, continually turned his opponents inside out and handled the wet conditions well. Needs to bulk up to make it at AFL in my opinion though.

Rance was very good today across half back, his composure and drive was fantastic.

Conners also played a good game today, came off a couple of times with hamstring tightness but was a good contributor.
I only saw the last quarter and a half of the game live (listened to the first half on 3XX) and agree with all that TFL. Collins has such clean disposal even in the wet.

Cartledge and Coburg's smalls dominated the stoppages. Like in rugby they continually had the pack around the ball rolling forward in the wet. It gave Coburg the all important field position to attack deep inside 50.

It wasn't a day for tall forwards. Silvester spanked Lonergan. Took some courageous marks to thwart Geelong attacks and rebounded well. Conversely Cleve was well held hardly had a touch.

I thought Polo did okay to back up his game last week. He still needs to keep improving before he gets anywhere near earning promotion but earlier in the year he looked to have fallen off the radar.

From what I saw of Petts he was more unselfish and team disciplined that in past weeks.

Thought Schulz was good too at CHB.

I saw JON running the boundary by the bench with a bandage/beige cast on his forearm and him rubbing it. He was still on the ground when I arrived so he was playing with it broken  :o.

Bluey, JON has a suspected broken bone in his forearm. He won me over yesterday with his guts and courage. He new he had done something to his arm and was coming off the ground and pretty much ran into a contest. He laid a big tackle and he and the opposition player fell to the ground on his arm.

After half time he went back on the ground for a while and played well, late in the qtr he came off and that was his day.

As for today's game, Collard was on fire. Kicked 6.4 and had 31 touches playing off a wing and up forward also. This guy is a total freak, he could be anything. Sat on someones shoulders in the last qtr but couldnt bring down the mark. I honestly dont know if Clayton knows how good he could be.

Cam Howat bought his own footy today with 38 touches and 2 goals.

Danny Meyer got through the game well and got better as it went on, fingers crossed he may show something for Richmond before the years out.

Gourdis was once again solid down back and continues to develop, you need to see this guy when he gets the ball and takes off. He is super fast, i actually think he may be more suited to playing on a wing with his marking power and speed.

Patto was very good all around the ground today also and spending most of the game on the ground will benefit him.

For the Coburg boys, Rayson also had heaps with 38 touches, Corr got plenty of it and kicked 4 goals, Currie was very good up forward with 4 also. Glen Carrick ran all day again and was at the bottom of every pack.

Ben Clifton chipped in with another 3 goals and has been very impressive mainly playing as a small forward.

Only injury concern out of todays game was Doc Davis who rolled an ankle in the last qtr.

Any questions, fire away.
Cheers for the report TFL. Top stuff  :cheers. Good to see Danny back playing.

How is Gourdis' kicking coming along?

Cheers TFL. I think in the long run due to his size (he's a big boy) and his kicking Gourdis will end up a forward as he was in his junior footy. Right now he is learning the defensive side of the game which even forwards need to learn these days.

Match Report Vs. Geelong Round 7 2008
By Glenn Robertson
coburgtigers.com.au

The Burgers faced up against Geelong on Saturday and had the privilege of playing on the MCG. Unfortunately the weather didn’t play its part as it rained on and off throughout the match. It was the first time this season playing wet weather footy, and similar to round one when the two sides took on each other the Burgers came out on top in flying colours.

The match was the curtain raiser for the Geelong-Richmond AFL match, and by the end of the game quite a largish crowd had gradually gathered. Had it not been for the miserable weather an extra couple of thousand would have been in earlier to see last years Grand Finalists slug it out.

As expected on such a cold, miserable day the scores were lower than average. And the first quarter provided only one goal apiece. Andrew Collins strives in the wet conditions and made the most of it on Saturday slotting through three creative majors for the match, the most of any player.

¼ Time: Coburg 1.4 (10)   Geelong 1.4 (10)

Greg Tivendale didn’t lose any of his skill in the wet and continued on his great form for the year with another fine display through the middle. Tristan Cartledge helped give the Coburg midfield first use, but with such a slippery ball it was pretty scrappy out of the middle. Paul Shelton was as hard as ever and was often found picking himself up form the bottom of a soggy pack, his ball use was also better than most.

½ Time: Coburg 4.11 (35)   Geelong 3.7 (25)

Jarrod Silvester’s last month of footy has been top class, and again this week he controlled what happened in the backline. Along with Andrew Horne, the two cut off many Geelong forward surges and followed it up by clearing the ball from the defensive fifty. Kayne Pettifer was also classy in the wet gathering many possessions through the Burgers half forward line, but with six shots on goal only 2 made it through the big sticks. Coburg kicked 3 majors and kept Geelong goalless in the third, although both teams struggled in the conditions kicked 13 behinds between them for the term.

¾ Time: Coburg 7.18 (60)   Geelong 3.13 (31)

The Burgers 29 point lead at ¾ time was more like a 45 point margin in the wet conditions, and to put the result beyond doubt the Tigers added another 4 goals in the final term.

Coburg were the harder and more disciplined team on the day, and deserved the win. There were a lot of sore bodies after the game, but the Burgers third win from as many games softened the pain. This week Coburg return at home on Sunday at 2.00pm against the Bendigo Bombers.

Coburg Tigers  1.4 4.11 7.18 11.19 (85)
Geelong          1.4  3.7  3.13  6.15 (51)

Goal Kickers: A. Collins 3, K. Pettifer 2, G. Tivendale, T. Cartledge, N. Lynch, N. Carnell, N. Liddle, D. Connors

Best Players: J. Silvester, A. Horne, G. Tivendale, P. Shelton, A. Rance, A. Collins

RESERVES

The reserves continued on their merry way adding win number 5 to a faultless season to date. The Burger reserves amassed an amazing 28 goals for the match to take away a 22 goal victory. Like usual the goals were shared around with Clayton Collard slotting 6 and Paul Currie and Cathal Corr adding another 8 between them.

Cam Howat and Glen Carrick were the best for the Burgers, whilst speedster Damien Rayson also collected plenty of the ball.

Coburg Tigers  6.7 14.9 19.14 28.18 (186)
Casey             3.1   4.2    6.3     8.5 (53)

Goal Kickers: C. Collard 6, P. Currie 4, C. Corr 4, B. Clifton 3, C. Howat 2, D. Putt 2, M. Davis 2, A. Pattison, D. Meyer, D. Rayson, J. Jones, D. Gourdis

Best Players: C. Howat, G. Carrick, C. Collard, D. Rayson, C. Corr, P. Currie

How anybody could read this and not get excited about our future amazes me.

And I'm not talking about the puerile (sp) sort of nonsense Daniel and X carry on about.
