lol I remember that game when Hughes and Morton kicked 11 goals between them. I went to school on Monday talking them up big time.

Think we are forgetting we were a basket case when Morton was here. Went to Swan's and won a flag.

Stringer is an over rated mug that plays 2 good games a year.

Suggesting Stringer is hectares better than Morton is either drinking the Stringer bathwater wank or under selling Mortons attributes in an area where medium forwards had a minor role compared to now and got him on 3 different AFL lists.

Stringer was a genuine match winner & game breaker on his day. Morton was soft bludger who got lucky. :shh

Morton was a good player on his day. Mugs don't play 100 or so games for 100+ goals and play in flags

He got kissed on the eggplant to play in Sydney’s flag

And good luck to him for being in the right place at the right time

83 games in nine years for 116 goals sums him up .. definitely wasn’t a walk up start most of his career

Stringer on the other hand is a 200 gamer with nearly 400 goals .. all Australian etc

They are a different class

No doubt Stringer is better player and has had the better career. My point was that they wouldn't be as far off as it would be portrayed in the media and spotlight. On the outside Morton is a failed journeymen and Stringer is the "package", the Kmart Dusty, Million dollar contract man (or atleast very close) and savior of Essendon Football club.

But peel back all the rubbish. And you have
Morton avg 1.4 goals vs Stringer who was an All Australian forward with 1.7 goals a game.

Both won a flag, Morton right place right time - still gotta do the work and show and add value at highest level - aka Townshend. Stringer could argue somewhat the same at Dogs drafted right place right time.

I think with all due respect Morton was very much underated player, kicked 110 goals in a very ordinary Richmond side and a scapegoat in Wallace era albeit didn't get the best career for the talent he had and Stringer is an overrated highly talented but lazy player, who also didn't get anywhere near as much out of his career as he should. But media and commentators act like he has.

And thus finds both players not as far apart as it seems, just my opinion.

100% correct. Well maybe not the Stringer bit another lazy bastard.
FMD. He could not get a game at wce came to us had two decent seasons as a medium fwd where he managed to kick some goals mostly cheapies, then from there on in it was all shizen and luck.

He may well have played in a premiership he got lucky he played 5 games that year and 7 games the following year saw his career over.
He was average at best.

Its amazing players at all clubs can have one good year or play in a premiership and its like they are shielded and supporters cannot see the bad just the better stuff.

I’m pro Morton. A team needs its stars, foot soldiers like Bellis and players like Morton who are a lottery. We had one in Townsend in 2017. There’s probably a lot of players who would rather fortuitously peak at the right time like Morton and Townsend than have 150+ games in the wilderness

Yes they do there are many. Mitch is one of them.

Soft lazy inconsistent and never more than a good average player.

No, they don't mate. Bloke was a leading goal kicker, premiership player and held a job in the best league in the country for 9 years. That's not a dud by any stretch.

You can call him soft, lazy and inconsistent if you like. The latter 2 were true at times. Doesn't change the fact he was a talent and a good contributor on plenty of occasions. Hence why he's got a dangley and we're on the internet talking about him

I reckon this guy would get a game in plenty of sides these days.

The average quality has dropped badly over the last generation and goal kickers are in high demand.

I reckon the only side he would make is ours
