Morrison and Wirrapunda for Otto...........Now Ill drink to that!!!!

Another midfielder and a solid small-type defender....for an overated tap ruckman....

How can we lose?

We can lose big time.  Morrison is old and very average and Wirrapunda is injury prone and not exactly a spring chicken.  We would be mad to go for that trade.

We must aim for a top 10 draft pick PLUS another pick AND a good young player if we are even gonna think about trading him.

I think Adelaides offer of Reilly, pick 8 and 24 is the best.  We could even force their hand and make them trade Hentchel instead of Reilly.  Take it or leave it you crow farks !!!  LMAOO.

POint taken HH but people arnt stupid either....Otto isnt exactly injury-free....and you will find that Wirrapunda is only 24-25.....the fact hes been playing since he was 16 makes him appear older than what he is.
Nothing wrong with Morrison either.....

Otto hasnt dominated a game in ages.....he has still not learnt how to palm the ball down to our players...

That deal isnt as stupid as it sounds.

Morrison did have a top second half of the year but he turns 27 by the start of next season and has played only 39 games in the past 4 years mainly due to injury. Not what we need. Wirrapunda has turned 25 and is injury prone as Harry said. He's also only 173cm "tall". I think we've seen with Brown and Johnson that recruiting even good players in their mid-20's doesn't solve our deficienes one iota. We need to develop high quality youth on our own and only having/receiving high draft picks gives you that opportunity to get them.

At least we now know why he has gone from a stayer to doubtfull - as suspected, the club has offered him less. I'm not sure that's warranted - imho they could justify maintaining his salary and a wage cut is a reflection of a previous bad decision.

If his last contract was based on what he could be rather than what he was worth then yes it was a bad decision and let's be honest there have been a number of them over the years. But (and I know it is a big but) now if they are saying this is what we believe you are worth then the Club is right to offer him less.

If he really wants to stay and the Club really want him to stay (and that's what both parties have been saying for a month) then this should be worked  out very very quickly.

Wirrpunda wanted man

Wirrpunda wanted man
17 September 2004
Herald Sun
Jon Pierik

WEST Coast moved last night to hose down rumours dashing halfback David Wirrpunda wants to return to Victoria.

But it's been reported the Eagles may look at Richmond's Brad Ottens and Hawthorn's Nathan Thompson after ruling out Carlton's Lance Whitnall as a possible solution to their forward quandary.

Whitnall looks likely to stay with the Blues after the embattled centre half-forward met his manager Ricky Nixon yesterday.

Rumours have been abuzz in Perth this week that Wirrpunda, 25, who still has one year left on his contract, is keen to arrange a trade and join a Victorian side.

But Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett scuttled such talk.

"David has another year to run on a contract and it would be unlikely that he would move unless it was his wishes and another club showed enough interest in him," Nisbett said.

"I wouldn't think that's a possibility.

"He's had his interviews with John (Worsfold) and there was certainly nothing untoward in that. He finished the year off very well."

Wirrpunda, who came from Healesville, was taken as a compensatory pick by the Eagles in the 1996 pre-season draft, and has endured a mixed year.

He was dropped in Round 14 after a sluggish opening to the year, but returned a week later and was one of the Eagles' better performers in their run to the finals.

It was reported this week the Eagles had Ottens, out of contract at the Tigers, and Thompson, who is still under contract at the Hawks, in their sights.

West Coast is keen to secure an experienced key-position player to complement its developing forward structure.

Ottens has the option of signing either a two or three-year deal with the Tigers, but has yet to make up his mind.

Nisbett said last night the Eagles had not approached either player, but would be interested in dealing for the pair if they were available during trade week.

Now, I wonder what the eagles have to offer........hmmmmmmm.......Judd perhaps ?  That would be a fair swap IMO.  The eagles have a great midfield and would really benefit by playing Ottens at Full forward alongside Matera.  Whereas we severley lack classy midfielders.  You wanna do business eagles ?  Let's do business.

Oxman wanted to know:  What was the story with the Jophn Pitura deal?

From the Encyclopaedia of AFL Footballers:

A stylish left footer who was at the centre of one of the most bitter clearance wrangles in League history.  Pitura came from Wagga Tigers and showed his talent as a flanker and centreman with the Swans.  He made the state side in 1973, but over the following summer he stunned the Swans when he said he wanted to quit, saying he was sick of broken promises.  The stand-off lasted until July when he was suddenly talked into playing again.  Stories circulated that he had only returned on the condition that he could be cleared to Richmond.  At the end of 1974 the fight started again and Pitura threatened to challenge the clearance rules in court. Richmond was fined for trying to gain Pitura's clearance without seeking South's permission to approach him.  Finally, in May 1975 Pitura was cleared in a swap for Brian Roberts, Francis Jackson and Graeme Teasdale.  Many people believed that the issue damaged Richmond's morale and in later years coach Hafey admitted that his club has been obsessed with getting Pitura.  Pitura failed to live up to expectations at Punt Road and at the end of 1977 went to Sydney club North Shore as captain-coach.

One of the worst decisions i can remember the club making - to lose the heart and soul of the club in a player like Whale Roberts, and then for Teasdale to win the Brownlow really rubbed salt into the wound.  And then to get his bloody son in a father-son later who played a massive 2 games lol really topped it off.

And furthmore , we had a choice to keep Mark Pitura (his son ) or Paul Dimmatina. you guessed it, we kept Mark who played 1 game, Paul went on and played 150 odd with the Bulldogs. ::)
