I understand that but our money should come if we play finals.

We do our part as supporters year in year out.

I have been a member for nearly 10 years for jack finals and look at us we are smashing it.

Make finals and we will rival in of the top 3 including the blues. No need to sell games. March is not doing his job if he is selling games like that.

Both Hawthorn and Geelong have proven in recent seasons that a solid financial base is as much a key to success as a good FF. any of the teams on special assistance will never be anymore than a qualifier, to be a gebuine contender , a club needs to be flush with capital so compromises aren't made along the way. We have some way to go before we are on solid  financial footing...Hawthorn showed great vision in underpinning the finaces of the club with a lucrative sponsorship that involved selling 4 games...we neednt do that...but if trading ahome game realises us 300-400k in tough times...we should be in full support...I'd hate to be in melbournes shoes , wouldn't you

Whatever it takes for us to survive in a game that's slowly but surely going more national.
There'll be no love for the lowly Melbourne clubs once all this is up and going.
So we try and increase our brand nationally as well instead of trying to keep what we had going 30 years ago.
I'm not happy, but what can you do.

just on Moi last point of whatever it takes ... I feel the thing that will haunt us is being beaten to the punch by Hawthorn to Waverley Park. We should have been the club that got that deal, we would be right in our heartland anyway ... that was another issue.

I'm with Smokey.  After 2 years of not having any games up here, I would welcome the chance to see Richmond on the Gold Coast.  And it would be nice not to have to drive nearly 100km to get to the game either. :pray

OK, so as i understand it this is what will happen.

10 Home games in Melbourne.
1 In QLD
+ ticketed members gain free access into an away game played in Melb to replace the QLD one.

We still get access to 11/17 games in Melbourne with ticketed membership.
+ $400,000 in the coffers and a game up North ( a mini holiday for some maybe ?)
+ there is a good chance that this may be played on a Fri or Saturday night.

So could someone please point out the negatives, because personally i see this as a positive, onwards and upwards.

Negatives:

Selling home games interstate.
if we won enough games to make finals we wouldn't need to sell home games.

Personally doesn't effect me as my lady gets cheap flights but to the normal Joe blo its hard to come up with cash to see their team play interstate.

2 tickets =$400
car and hotel.

$1000 weekend for what. Nothing.

With a new team starting up on the Gold Coast, all the support will go that club.

We have always had a solid membership base even with only 2 finals appearances in 25 years so i think they should reward us by getting the best deal for us.

More home games at the g and less at that Telstra hole.

I dont care about what the hawks done by going to Tassy but our homeland is here. We were a powerhouse and lets get that back.

Others see it as half empty.
And then there are some that are so blinded by their own personal issues they dont see at all.

thats all well and good my friend but being rightoeus doesn't exactly swell the balance sheet. I'd much prefer to preserve the future of my footy club with a short term venture than be stupidly defiant and put the club in a perilous situation during a difficult economic period

And that is it in a nutshell BJ (not the son of a beach BJ) ;D - times they are a changin, as long as our home is the G and we play at least 3/4 of our games in Melbourne, what can I say I don't like it ! but I love the Tigers and if it means we have a STRONG future - so be it.

I don't necessarliy like it, I would prefer going back to the old days to be honest  :thumbsup but that's just not reality is it.

I can be a miserable K and hate it all I want, and I do - But that is defeating the purpose of what my life and my love for the Tigers is all about. So I will deal with it.

Although there'll be no new supporters to be made out it on the Gold Coast we'll be doing the AFL a favour promoting the game until GC17 enter the comp. I'm hoping that favour will be returned with the AFL giving us all other home games at the 'G and a significantly better MCC stadia deal. Because right now we are getting screwed and taken for granted by the MCC given the top 4 crowds we bring to the 'G.

HMH do you know the bold part will be the case for sure?

It would mean one less interstate trip elsewhere compared to this year. So although we lose a home game in Melbourne we effectively would be replacing one interstate away game to WA, SA or Sydney with one neutral game on the Gold Coast against another Victorian side.

Would it change your mind if an away game in Melbourne is changed to a "home game" for Richmond members to attend so therefore still getting your 11 games?

Not really I have always fundamentally been against selling home games....

Based on what other clubs do in this situation (eg Hawks & Dogs) which is they use their membership to get into a designated away game, it would still not give me my "home game" privileges (read reserve seats, pre-match function room) which I pay a helluva lot for and that is a concern to me....

Quote
That said I think people need to put the clubs priorities ahead of their own since it's for just one home game.

I appreciate that the club needs to raise revenues, believe me I understand that as well as anyone... but you say it is "just one home" what happens if it becomes 2, then perhaps 3 ..where do you draw the line...

Call me cynical but.....

Quote
Support the club first, not yourself.

I could really take offence to that last comment and I am sure no offence was meant but I know I have been supporting this club "first" for close to 30 years now.

I reckon buying extra memberships with reserve seats, attached, attending all functions sort of proves that....

I travel interstate regularly, actually this is the frist time in 3 years I haven't been to every H&A game in a season.

I am also aware that we haven't had a game in QLD for 2 seasons and I reckon that's disappointing becuase the Qld trip is my favourite.

But surely the Club could push harder for an away game against the Lions to cover our QLd & Northern NSW members?

End of the day I will remain a member because that's what I do no matter what... I don't put conditions on my loyalty to this footy club.

I can guarantee I will travel to the Gold Coast for this home game and will no doubt enjoy it

But it doesn't mean I have to support the decision of selling a "home game".

As  I said at the beginning guarantee us our remaining home games at the MCG then I'll accept it ....
