Jordan McMahon - 2009 expectations?
« on: March 09, 2009, 10:46:07 AM »
The next up is the much maligned Jordie. Stats wise 2008 was his best year in his whole career so far. The first time he averaged over 20 possessions.

What are your expectations for him in 2009 and what would he have to do to silence most of his critics?

Career at Richmond so far

          Games  Disposals  Marks  Tackles    G.B
2008        22        22.9        5.9       1.6       6.7

I expect him to be widely criticised.

To a certain extent I dont think he can silence his critics as being tough and accountable doesn't fit well with the role he plays in the side.  He will always cop criticism because of

- his role vs playing style
- his clangers which because they are in the back half are usually costly even though his kicking efficiency is high
- being swapped for a high draft pick
- coming from the bulldogs

Stats as per last year would be good and a lessening of the clangers too would let the pressure off to a degree

He is another one of TW "skinny under 60kgs" lovechilds following the sad footsteps of Patrick Bowden.

Pathetic choice for trading a top 20 draft pick and i expect him to continiue as he did last year.

Unnacountable football is all he is good for.

The way football is played these days, I reckon I'd be able to get 20 kicks on a HBF. Those stats mean nothing.
As has been pointed out, needs to reduce clangers.

I'd like to think that the young tall defenders at Richmond can put pressure on McMahon's spot. But then again he is Wallace's lovechild and is unlikely to be dropped.

McMahon's clangers are often from a lack of workrate up fields. When you have no options you are forced to try and thread the needle and from coming out of defence, a turnover is always going to look bad.

With another year in our kids fitness base, hopefully we will be working harder to get into space and McMahon's output will reflect that.

Tackles - 1.6

Says a lot.

For him to impress me this year he obviously needs to lay at least 6 punishing tackles a match...at least!

aaahhh here come the mcmahon baggers.

knew it wouldn't take long before they would start popping out.

fact is we do not need another player who CANT lay tackles, CANT put on weight and is a defensive type of player.

He is rubbish and its good to see some of you coming to your senses.

I expect it to be a year like 2008

Although in 2009 I reckon he isn't guaranteed a game every week, there areblokes who can do that role now

But seriously if we didn't have the Tiger Forums of the world would be pretty boring  :rollin

That's pretty much impossible unless you're an inside midfielder. In fact only Brett Kirk averaged more than 6 tackles a game last year and only barely at that. I can hardly see a back flanker or winger doing it, I'd say it's never been done in the history of the game.

McMahon layed FAR more tackles than Lindsay Gilbee last year, in fact 50% more with less games played.
