lets hope it doesn't end up like Cogs.

Yeh,let's hope he doesn't end up having to have 2 knee reconstructions because the club allowed him to train on his own.......

Gee the club really managed him well didn't they?

Yes,they should have cryogenized Mark and thawed him out once the ligaments had completely healed......Oh well, you live and learn!

“I’ve done a lot of strength work since December and feel really strong through the legs - it’s just the matter of the tendon coping with the load.”

I'll try not to be too melodramatic but this is the part of this article that really concerns me. :(
This isn't exactly a common complaint.
I don't think I have ever heard of such a young player having problems with both their achilles tendons such as Trent is having. Groins & hammies yes but the achilles? He had an identical injury last season so it's obviously a chronic problem(at this stage anyway).

I just pray to the heavens that this is not a problem with his lower legs that will continue to haunt him later on no matter how many assurances I read from the club.

The facts are he hasn't run for 5 months and still isn't running, now they are talking another 4 months before he plays? Maybe?
Bloody hell. :help

thank god a realist. Expect cotch to not to play this year.

Not comforting at all that he hasn't run in 4 or 5 months.

Forget about what the club is saying what about all the other experts that have said the same thing - you know the ones from the AIS, VIS etc

They cannot all be so wrong can they

It isn't chronic as it's the other leg to last year. He's had no problem with that one since. Cotch is also a freak that doesn't need a preseason to play AFL  :bow. At least this time he has an AFL season behind him which he didn't have last year when he made his debut.

Not chronic? :-\
Sorry MT but I see a pattern whether it's the same leg or not, it's the same injury. It's a pretty big strecth to call two achillies injuries a coincidence. As it stands he is having problems with his leg tendons so I'd say it is definitely a chronic injury.

I just hope like blazes he grows out of it/recovers sooner rather than later because despite what some are saying these are prime development years. A youngster shouldn't be having problems of this nature this early. :(

This time last year.....

Cotchin on track for early return
Jon Ralph | March 11, 2008

RICHMOND'S No. 2 draft pick Trent Cotchin is just weeks from returning to football after a pre-season sitting on the sidelines with achilles soreness.

The highly-rated Cotchin took the first steps towards senior football on Friday when he ran for the first time as a Tiger after overcoming complications with a broken foot.

Now Richmond says he is on track for a return as early as Round 2 in the VFL, when Cotchin becomes eligible to play after being taken off the long-term injury list.

He will not be rushed into the seniors, but the news is a massive boost for the Tigers after speculation Cotchin might be put on ice for the entire season.

Rival recruiters said Cotchin was clearly the best midfielder in the 2007 draft.

The Tigers are building to full strength for their Round 1 clash with Carlton on Easter Thursday, when Richmond is determined to make a fast start against a Carlton side with Chris Judd making his Blues debut.

The Tigers have made a pre-season theme of derailing Carlton's momentum after a season of good vibes for the Blues.

Cotchin will need to build fitness, but football director Greg Miller said the club was buoyed by his progress.

"He ran on Friday and pulled up really well. He is progressing well and feeling really good. He has three or four weeks of preparation now before Round 2 in the VFL (Round 3 of the AFL season), which is when he is eligible to come back."

Miller said 18-year-old Cotchin had been immensely frustrated by sitting out the pre-season. "It's been a long road for him. He has high expectations of himself."

I mean not chronic as in he isn't repeatedly having the same problem in the same achilles. Sure his achilles are an issue but it appears more a slow body development issue going by the specialists than a chronic injury that he'll have for the rest of his career. After he finally gets over this current problem if he were to suffer the same problem again next preseason in either achilles then it would be a major serious concern (hopefully he's now learnt his lesson about overtraining). But at this stage the now good achilles hasn't flared up again since he returned to running, training and playing around this time last year. I'm happy for them to take Cotch's recovery slowly like last year so when he does come back he is right to go.

Jon Ralph says in our preview video that his guesstimate is a round 3 VFL return for Cotch and then 4 weeks of running around at Coburg before his AFL comeback in round 8. Let's hope so  :pray.

I've got some positive news on Cotch. He did some straight line 100m running today at training with a trainer while the others were warming up. I wouldn't say sprinting but it was at a decent pace nevertheless. Good to see him at least back running. We had a quick chat with Trent after training as he was sitting in the dugout with an ice pack around the ankle and he said he'll be fine it's just taking a while.

"But I forgot the other important piece of news.

Cotch is back running!"
