Karl Langdon says Mick Malthouse is Richmond-boundBy Scott Gullan
FOR the past decade former West Coast forward Karl Langdon has dined out on the fact he broke the story of Mick Malthouse signing with Collingwood.
Last night Langdon was at it again, this time claiming Malthouse had verbally agreed to coach Richmond next year.
"My informant is very, very strong and has had associations with the Richmond Football Club for a long time," Langdon told 3AW's Sports Tonight program.
"My understanding is that there has been at least a verbal agreement and Mick will be going to Richmond for a four-year deal.
"Terry Wallace is a dead man walking as we all know, there is no possible way he is going to be coach of the Tigers next year.
"And as far as I am concerned Mick Malthouse is going to be the man who is going to take over as the Richmond coach, sooner rather than later."
Langdon admitted he had not spoken to Malthouse, who left the Eagles after 10 years in 1999, since he claimed credit for breaking the story about his move to Collingwood.
"Quite obviously it was a very difficult situation for him to plan to go back to Victoria where he wanted to be closer to his family at that time," said Langdon, who was centre half-forward in the 1992 Eagles premiership side.
"He had served 10 years at West Coast, 10 magnificent years, he was a wonderful coach and did a sterling job.
"Unfortunately it was very hard to keep things like that quiet, particularly in a place like this.
"But I just look at this, looking at the timing, knowing Mick Malthouse and knowing his association with the Richmond Football Club, which is one which has always been very strong and one where he had a lot of success as a player.
"I think when you look at Richmond and where they are at, it just fits, it fits like a glove as far as I am concerned."
Malthouse, 55, comes out of contract at Collingwood at the end of the season.
He has declared he will definitely continue coaching in the AFL next year.
