.... However, should Sheedy get the Richmond gig for the next three years, he will inherit some unwanted baggage that he'll be stuck with until the end of 2010.
Former Western Bulldogs defender Jordan McMahon, for example, has another year left on his contract, believed to be worth up to $300,000 next year.
He was brought in under the Terry Wallace regime but has played just five games this season, and only one since round six because of poor form.
McMahon's failure at the elite level has proved a nightmare for Richmond, who gave up its 2007 national draft selection No19 for him, which the Bulldogs then used to recruit the promising Callan Ward.
Also contracted for next year are bit players Jake King, who has played only two games this season, and Jay Schulz, who has played four courtesy of ordinary form and a foot problem. Schulz has been extremely disappointing since his debut in 2003. The key-position player has been in and out of the side for most of his career, playing 71 games in almost seven seasons.
Of the 30 and over players, the Tigers are almost certain to offload Joel Bowden and Nathan Brown, who both come out of contract this season. Neither has played in the two rounds since Wallace left Punt Road, and their expected loss will give Richmond a hefty salary-cap relief.
Also at the crossroads is ruckman Troy Simmonds, who is in the fifth and final year of a lucrative contract which attracted him away from Fremantle, after he started his career with Melbourne. Simmonds, who has had knee problems in recent years, has also not been part of caretaker coach Jade Rawlings' plans in his first two games since taking over.
After nine fairly moderate games this season, a decision to shed Simmonds will largely be made after assessments over the final nine rounds of young ruckmen Angus Graham and Tyrone Vickery, as well as developing big man Andrew Browne.
Mark Coughlan, with six games this season, and Kayne Pettifer, with four, are also out of contract this September and appear certain to be delisted.
Graham Polak is another coming out of contract and he will not make the cut after spending most of this season in the VFL reserves.
One positive for Richmond's next coach is that the Tigers will tomorrow night play their seventh newcomer this season when Jayden Post makes his senior debut against Adelaide on the Gold Coast. The 18-year-old was the Tigers' second choice in last year's national draft.
