"Civil War at Punt Road" according to the media
« on: July 08, 2009, 03:48:27 PM »
The media are loving this. They perceive "turmoil" at Richmond and then crank the handle to sell a story :banghead.

For all those past players and 'journos' that need to have hissy fits publicly in the name of what's best for the RFC well done again. Your selfish tantrums have made us the butt of jokes once again  >:(. Either shut up, accept the processes in place by the current Board, and 100% support the candidate who becomes our new coach whoever he is or pee off for good!

I agree MT.  There is no story, just a media beatup.

There is a process in place that the club will follow.

It would be hypocritical to say there were no processes in place in 2004 and then do the same thing in 2009.

Experience is the name we give to our mistakes.  At least this board has learnt from lessons past.

Sheedy is a candidate and if he passes he will be the best person for the job.  I personally doubt it but good luck to him for trying.

Bartlett should leave the club to its own process and not try to interfere with a media push for Sheedy.  Ironic that 2 of the RFC best and most glorified past champions turned their backs on the club for a collective 43 or 44 years and now in the twilight of their careers they see the light and want to save the club from damnation.

Mike was asked by Healy and Russell about the "civil war" at Richmond. Mike goes civil war? ... really?

Mike said Caro's article reminds him of O'Reilly's comments on Bradman who he wasn't a fan of - "you don't pee on monuments". Sheeds should go through the process and he shouldn't be knocked back from doing it as it's disrespectful. Mike doesn't know why Sheeds can't say he wants to coach again.

Thi just goes to show that everyone involved in the past with Richmond that is currently there needs to go, minus the CEO and President. This club is plagued by internal and past players disruptions.

Why would a Buckley or Hardwick want to come down to punt road with the ex players carrying on like stuffing kids.

This happens b/c this past players group of henchman from the 60's and 70's want to present Richmond in the most disparaging light in order to ensure the candidate they want comes to the club is employed so that they could still pull the strings behind the scenes and ensure that any other decent candidate that does not fulfill these henchmen criteria eventually pulls out of the race and leaves the club with the option these back room operators want. Just look at the Frawley scenario. Bomber Thompson and others wanted nothing to with us.
KB is a cancer and has been on the club since he got sacked. KB is not a Richmond person now he is a media person. If Jack Dyer was alive and asked KB to endorse him to be the next Richmond coach he would do that.
Others/ past players are also cancers. Their opinion is antequated unhealthy and unnecessary.
Time to get rid of these cancers and make them benign.

must admit ive detatched myself from tuning into much of this nonsense but correct me if Im wrong but has anyone apart from KB and to a lesser extent St Francis come out and campaigned for sheeds...if I was to conduct a straw poll amongst supporters the "against" would heavily outweigh those FOR...civil war...hmmm wouldnt think so :o

Very interesting. Is the inspiration for your work Mario Puzo or Mel Brooks?

Not sure if the overly dramatic conspiracy plot would cut it but if you add the bits you've come up with in the past 24 hrs about KB being a puppet, a cancer, a very self centred person, holding the club to ransom and a disgrace of a human you may have the basis of a hit comedy on your hands.

I laughed.

Tom Hafey has come our and endorsed Sheeds. Went as far as to say that Sheeds shouldn't have to go through any "process" as it would be an "insult to the man"

I think Caro has hit a nerve with our Past Players - truth hurts perhaps  ;D

Yet the comedy played out by KB and the club publically on radio entirely escapes you  :whistle

What, if anything, is KB trying to do if not to undermine the coaching selection process in favor of Kevin Sheedy? And how does that not qualify KB as a self centred person that thinks he (and Sheedy) are both bigger than the club?

Is that right? Give up mind reading because you're no good at it.

I think KB blundered yesterday. I don't see how that warrants the tirade of personal crap and made up scenarios.

I thought it was a bit bizarre that KB would fly off the handle based on Caro's claim without checking first.

You'll have to point out how it was self centred of him. I read it as him being upset that he, wrongly, believed Sheedy had been ruled out before the process.
