If we cut deeper ,  like you were calling for (sonsie) , we could of had the two kids currently training with the tigers.

 - the ruckman some draft watchers are falling the best ruck in the draft outside CDT.
 - Burton who was captain vic and his team, u18 team of the year (hbf) and best and fairest winner.

Id have preferred another two 18 year olds this stage rebuild

Dandenong Stingrays dasher JayDe Varlet among the preason hopefuls at Richmond VFL. Ditto for his Rays teammate Max Lee. The Tigers' training list shows they've covered a lot of ground again in the U18s and local ranks.

Richmond’s VFL team has added another three strings to its bow in preparation for the 2026 season, with the return of players Tom Ferguson, Sam Phillips and Reuben Hanson.

After standout 2025 seasons, the trio have re-signed at Tigerland and will once again run out in the yellow and black.

Former AFL-listed player Sam Philp has joined Richmond’s VFL team, bringing his competitive edge to the side’s 2026 line-up.

Philp was previously on Carlton’s AFL list, drafted as a first-round pick in 2019. He went on to make his AFL debut in Round 4, 2020, against Essendon.

The recruit spent last season with Port Melbourne, dominating off half-forward and using his explosiveness to provide run as an inside midfielder.

Now, a Tigerland resident, Philp is looking forward to a fresh start at the Swinburne Centre.

VFL: and another Talent League tall on the way to Richmond VFL - Bendigo Pioneers 2025 best and fairest Zaydyn Lockwood, who also played seven senior games for South Bendigo.

THE OUTSIDERS: Leading up to the draft I’ll be revealing exciting talents many may not be familiar with.

Zadyn Lockwood (no44 Bendigo) shapes as a low-cost, high-return ruckman.

Standing 198cm, he started 2025 as a defender but was quickly moved into the ruck. And there he showcased his contested marking and agility around the ground.

He was very good at taking the ball from stoppages and running away or giving it off.

Lockwood got better as the year progressed.
In Bendigo’s first (and only) final Lockwood had 28 disposals, 7 marks, 11 tackles and 34 hitouts. Not bad for a ruckman, hey?

Formerly a Richmond NGA kid, he played this year as a 19-year-old and will turn 20 in January.
