Two things:-
Fremantle supporters are the most ignorant, stupid afl followers in the world and that includes Sydney, Brisbane and NZ. Morons.
Mr Tigra,p you got the tackling and the pressure and we still lost!

So in another words don't bother with the tackling and pressure?

If u can't admit that we stayed in it bc of our tackling and pressure....
Exactly. Well said.    :clapping
we had 8 more tackles and 10 more contested posessions.
where they hurt us was the uncontested posessions  223-188

if it was the other way around you would be saying that we played a soft unaccountable game.

football is a multifaceted game, but simpletons will concentrate on one thing.
I wasn't the only one talking about our lack of defensive pressure Al.
Most experts have mentioned it all week. Richo mentioned it also during the game.
Are they are simpletons also?

so if you think one facet of footy is the be all an end all, why didnt we win tonight?

3 points I'd like to make: 1) We just really lack composure throughout the whole team. As soon as a team plays a close checking style we just hack it forward at all costs regardless of whether we have players in space or other options available. 2) We did not make an effort to play in front in general play all night, especially when we were under pressure coming out of our back line. Too many easy turn-over possessions !!! 3) Do  our coaches really teach our back line to take marks and then blindly play on when we have been under siege for 15 minutes i.e Alex Rance on several occasions  :banghead

Don't turn things around in hypotheticals to highlight  your own argument. It actually discredits your opinion further.

Spots on was that comment. Tackling and pressure can't be faulted tonight.

I can't understand how freo players had so much space and were found on their own all over the park.

Jack was shocking tonight and yet again a small kicks a bag against us.

Ballantyne, Sidebottom.

Which small kicks our goals?

I can't believe that goal umpire who got in the way. We did enough to win.

Freo got lucky.

Feeling a bit sick after this one. Stuffing sick of this club sometimes. Feeling really bummed. Home game for my local footy club next week so sticking around sinking frothies with the boys is sounding much more inviting than heading into the MCG for more of this crap.

Quite clearly our tackling and pressure was down in the first month, no way to dance around this. Maybe Im a simpleton but tonight it is clearly the reason we stayed in it and had a chance to pinch when in the second and 3rd quarters we only got it inside 50 13 times.
yet we lost.
why is that?
because freo spread and worked hard to create space through the middle stages ogf the game.
how many goals did they get from a chain of uncontested posessions, yet we had more tackles?

no one aspect is the magic bullet.

to carry on about one stat is simpleton town, and i never thought you did. but hey if you want to put your hand up for that......

as i have said, a low tackle count is a symptom of the problem, not the problem.

WTF are you on about?
I never said our tackling and pressure was no good. i said that despite that we still lost and that footy is about more than one aspect. in this case we got cut up by  freos ability to outrun/outwork us  and get uncontested possessions on the spread.
where are the supposed hypotheticals you talk about.do you even know what hypothetical means?

whatever al, I respect you as a poster but i think you are lowering yourself with this. Just imagine how much more we wouldve lost by if we didnt tackle and pressure like we did? is the way Im looking at it.

The defensive application was faultless and I would love to see that week in week out, it was the silly unforced errors that cost us in the end. I cant recall them kicking too many goals from a chain of uncontested possies tbh, they seemed to work hard for their goals and got several lucky ones imo.
Another reason they beat us in run and spread was that Crowley dominated Lids our prime mover and the fact that Vlastuin and Helbig came in and dont offer as much run as Conca and King do at this stage of their development.
While we're playing the hypotheticals, do you think we wouldve won an open uncontested shootout against them over there? I think we wouldve gotten flogged.

Good effort by our boys tonight. Stuck at it all night.
It hurts now but I recon it might hurt even more come the end of the year.
Time will tell. Need to have a win next week to get back on track.
Then win the Port game and most would agree that at 5-2 is probably better than most would have had us.
Some work to do though, especially our half forwardline.. Non exsistant tonight.
Night all....

While we're playing the hypotheticals, do you think we wouldve won an open uncontested shootout against them over there? I think we wouldve gotten flogged.

actauly the defensive application was not faultless. with such a discrepancy in uncontested possessions, and when freo were able to score so much from unmarked players taking marks inside 50 it shows that our defensive aspect fell down once again when it counted.

the stats may show that out tackle count was up, but our defensive workrate was well down at times.

this is what i have have said time and time again. its's not about one stat, one aspect or one facet.
it's about the overall performance, and too many times we allowed freo players to run free and get easy possessions. they got too many easy goals and not on the fast break, which is different again. how many of the shots on goal from their smalls were from uncontested marks rather than crumbing goals? and marks from a good spot too, not deep in the pockets.

(im still unsure about the hypotheticals Im supposed to have raised. )

I think we can beat the cats BT. I said it a few weeks ago. I just think we are due to beat them and they are due for a loss.

Big open spaces of the G, hopefully Chapman is still out with that hamstring.

I'm more confident if beating the cats than if beating Freo tonight.

I never ever never ever ever once said it was only about one aspect.

If you can quote me saying this then all good but I don't recall ever once saying that tackling or pressure was everything.
I was concerned about our unaccountable soft footy in the first 3 weeks no doubt about it.
I harped on about our lack defensive pressure and softness against the pies but so did many many footy experts as well.
I don't see how voicing an opinion of my own concerns (which I did from the saints win), is such a terrible thing in your eyes.
Tonight our intensity and hardness at the contest clearly helped us nearly pinch the game we surely wouldve lost by atleast 8 goals if we hadn't done just that.
If we have that same level of intensity throughout the year we will win more games than we lose

....as long as we learn how to defend goal side that is.   ;D
The club that keeps giving.
