Stupid and perplexing thing is that last year we were mostly playing that way.  Not always as successfully or as skilfully but we were winning more games than losing, improving gradually and showing an ability to mix it with the top sides on a more regular basis.  I still can't fathom why our players (or game plan or whatever the hell is to blame) have reverted to the worst of the Wallace years.   :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

I think a huge part of the problem Smokey, is that this season many of the teams have reverted to the rolling rugby scrum style of game. This horrid style of footy is particularly effective against us, as we have shown time and time again that we have no answer for it. It forces us into our shells, into making silly errors, and into chipping backwards and sideways. Collingwood murdered us with this style of game, and even the lowly Bulldogs were effective with it mostly in the first half. Buckley in the papers this week basically reflected the attitude of a lot of modern day coaches when he said that he didn't give a flying fig jam about the aesthetics of the game. All he cares about is the 4 points. Seems to me that the only way to fix the unholy mess that our game has descended into is to scrap the interchange bench altogether.

Should also ban pre-season training, let the players have durries at half time and swap the Gatorade with beer and Coke.

Swap the Swans for the Eagles and the top 8 this year is looking pretty much locked in. Hawks, Cats, Port and Pies are certainties while North is having a year like we had last year. Freo isn't in great form but it's hard to see them missing and the same goes for the Swannies. That leaves one spot left :-\. The Suns - are the best of the rest in terms of current form but can they win enough games away from Metricon to reach the Eight this year? The rest (including the Eagles who are currently 6th) have been far too inconsistent and shown too many holes to think they will seriously make the bottom half of the top 8 when September rolls around.

If the Richmond boys are watching tonight's game then they should look at Carlton and realize that's how bad they/we look to those watching Richmond games this year - lack of team intensity and outworked by the opposition, continually second to ball, outnumbered at the contest and fall of the ball due too much left to too few, poor skills and delivery, poor decision making and a dysfunctional forward line where they look up and see no one and/or no options forward of the ball.

I hate Collingwood but you have to envy their workrate, 2nd/3rd efforts, and hard running as a team across the whole field. Even when they make mistakes, there's a teammate running in support close by to clean up the loose ball or nullify the error by forcing a stoppage so they can reset and go again. Stuff like that stands out when compared to the lazy selfish crap we've dished up this year.

its not about loving another team to appreciate how well their players develop compared to ours.

i cant believe it to be honest i really cant.

Elliot 50 goals vrs edwards 80 in 130 games. Same position.

Tom Langdon, Heath Grundy vrs Vickery.

Its only when you look at other youngsters playing the game when you realise how bad our players are.

Why would they want to look?
There is no competition for spots so why would our pansies bar a few try?
We are beyond redemption.

Our players take a few steps forward take a step back, then stagnate and they stay in the side for the next 6 years.

you can crap on about hartley and FJ Miller and the boxing coach but for me the reason other clubs new recruits have an effect is because of one word "Culture"

we have proven this year we still dont have it. Loser mentality still exists at Punt road

I notice tonight when Daisy had a go at Penslebury, mccafer came in straight away and ripped him off with a few bumps.

Langdon first year first minute of play stands next to daisy and gives a few hard bumps remind him his not going to be treated lightly.

I honestly cant remember if Titch tambling or any of his fantasy island finocchio mates have ever done anything like this.

they run the opposite way. il never forget that game with King vrs Pies when Brown and co just walked away and left king to defend himself. What a farce but nothings changed and that same mentality still exists at Punt road
