Not convinced.

Has lowered the standards way too low and if not addressed can spell disaster for over 20 years.

Not sold on him being the coach for us but in saying that i acknowledge he needs time. I also acknowledge hes had some serious injury problems since he has been there. So definately jury out for me. Reckon 1 year extension is okay.

To be honest im not even sure we improved this year on last year despite winning 5 games.

I think we will know more  once he completes another 2 seasons.

If we don't keep improving as we did under Dimma he Is gone and  so he should.

Also  a lot of his success depends on our draft haul last year.  :shh

It’s hard though because I don’t think our improvement will be so linear. We might dip a bit next year as we give more game time to the young mids, our experienced players in vlastuin, broad etc might get worse, then we rely on the likes of brown to step up and get better.

Adem Yze’s contract

“The third part I want to hit on is Adem Yze.”

“He enters 2026 without a deal beyond that year – his initial three-year contract ends next year. They haven’t started any discussion just yet, they will contemplate that over the off-season, they will review his year like they will the whole footy department.

“I wonder if this is one that gets done before Round 1 next year.”

-------------------

Yze’s contract expires at the end of 2026, but Dunne said the board will explore extending the 47-year-old for another year or two before the start of next season, although those discussions haven’t commenced yet.

“We will certainly contemplate that [an extension] this off-season, but that is just part of our annual review. We’ve seen good growth in Adem, as much as we have in the playing group,” he said.

“The important thing is we are seeing from Adem what we saw throughout the recruitment process. All those things we were checking and exploring throughout the recruitment process we are seeing come to fruition. That’s the thing for me. we tested exactly what we wanted from a coach and now we are seeing it.

“We will go through a really thorough feedback process with Adem, as we do every year. We bring in feedback and ideas from all different sources and give that to Adem. I’m sure we will contemplate the contract at that time or post that. We are seeing all the right signs from Adem. The players are engaged and can see the vision. That’s the most important part. It’s ultimately then what’s in the best interests of the club.”

Someone has done a 180 on Yze.

---------------

"He's just gone up in the aura rankings."

Kane is starting to become more impressed with Adem Yze.

Extension nearing for Tigers coach

Hayden Farquhar
Zerohanger.com
November 16, 2025

Richmond senior coach Adem Yze is in line to sign an extension beyond 2026, club president John O'Rourke confirmed, but he conceded the Tigers are in "no rush" to have Yze locked in for 2027.

After a slow start with the club, Yze's tenure rapidly picked up momentum in 2025 as the Tigers stunningly recorded five wins on the season - unimpressive on the surface but widely viewed as an overachievement given their young and inexperienced playing list.

The year included a famous win over Gold Coast against ex-Richmond premiership coach Damien Hardwick, and three losses by single digits, highlighting that the club may not be as far away from a return to Finals contention as many pundits anticipated.

Speaking to Herald Sun's Lauren Wood, O'Rourke highlighted how Yze has laid the foundations for a successful rebuild for the Punt Road based outfit, seeing him as the long-term option for the side.

"He's contracted for next year, but we're very happy with Adem. We're going through the normal review process that we want to do every year, and that's been positively worked through," O'Rourke said.

"He is thriving on the feedback and putting things in place to make sure that he is our next premiership coach, and that's what we want from him."

However, the club's focus remains on a strong pre-season build into 2026, meaning Yze's looming extension isn't at the forefront - for now.

"I think you will hear more about an extension in time. We're not there yet but those conversations have started," O'Rourke said.

"Adem's in a good place, so I've got no doubt he's going to be a longer-term coach for Richmond, but we'll get to that in due course. There's no urgency."

Well deserved.

Youd think the stability would have to be good for the younger guys on the list

Was always going to happen. Becomes an absolute circus if coaches are left unsigned with under 12months left on his deal.

First year was a nothing year - club didn’t have a direction. So I consider this year to be his first and the first of a rebuild. He has atleast another 2 seasons before he comes under any pressure imo.

Good decision.

His harsh critics have rocks in their heads IMO

Good decision, poor execution. No need to give him 2 years.
He coached poorly in year 1, he bounced nicely last season but right now another poor year and we are stuck.

Right now, the club owes the coaches and the playing list no more than an extra year. We have given them all a unique opportunity but sometimes in life, it’s nice to live on the edge and the comfort of 3 years simply won’t do that.

I am increasingly concerned at the clubs inertia when making decisions - a heap of internal promotions and now this. Even the drafting - the last 2 picks were apparently rated higher by us internally than all of the external rankings - across multiple sites and sources.

I personally don’t think he has what it takes and that norf game late in the season was my exhibit A.
In 2026, we turned up our toes too often - both on field and tactically in the coaches box - to be comfortable we are 100% on the right track to give 3 more years as coach.

I personally don’t think that our list is that young - it is lopsided but we got enough games out of Taranto, Hopper, Broad, Vlastuin, Nank, Kmac all played plenty of footy to help the message from the coach on field. Balta, Lynch and Prestia all played a dozen or so games so enough to impact as team leaders.

Balta and Lynch were black marks on his resume. Both cost us and his credibility dearly. That stuff continues to happen next year, we get belted like we have last 2 seasons and we finish on 2-3 wins with a % of 75% or lower and this decision will start to really smell badly.

Huge gamble and for me, 2026 is a huge fork in the road for the club - beyond just this appointment.

Remember, Yze came to us off the back of a 10 1/2 game season and a 94%
Since then, he has guided us to 2 and 5 wins and a 63% and 66% in percentage.

Not sure that warrants a 5 year term.
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

Iirc people in the said we had Zane Peucker high in our rankings.

I don't see that as a bad thing.

What's the point of giving money to scouts and the football department if we are just going to draft and trade based on twomey or foxfooty?
