I’ve got no problems with them wanting those players

But surely they could have traded back and still got Grlj

I’m sure if the offers were there then they would have. Bit of a weird draft, seems like clubs had such a variety in their own internal rankings that you could switch picks and still end up with who you wanted.

Grlj at certain points was rated top 3 in the draft, even at the time of the combine when he dominated results. Stupid phantom drafts had him fall out of top 10. No way he would have got past Essendon.

I hope they know what they are doing.

They have taken a risk here and let's hope he plays off

I don’t know how to post photos but rookie me central has some pretty great profiles of all the prospects around our picks with strengths, weaknesses, rating for each stat and how that ranks against the rest of the class.

Their final power rankings were:

1. Duursma.
2. Uwland.
3. CDT.
4. Patterson.
5. Annable.
6. Robey.
7. Dean.
8. Taylor.
9. Cumming.
10. Grlj.
11. Sharp.
12. Schubert.
13. Farrow.
14. Marsh.
15. Lindsay.

The mids looks more balanced now -

Hotton. Grlj. Campbell. Algar is some good speed.

Retschko is a runner.

Lalor. Cumming. Smillie. McAuliffe is hopefully some class inside.

Fingers crossed Tanner Armstrong kicks on.

Getting the spine in place early in a rebuild is useful too: Faull. Trainor. Armstrong. Sims.

Haven't seen any significant midfield time for Campbell.
Hotton and Algar the same but you might expect these 3 to rotate/spend time up forward I guess?

Retschko I thought was more of a winger.

Smillie couldn't get on the park and just had surgery as well.

So at this stage really it seems like Lalor, Cumming, Grlj and McAuliffe will be our options to mix with the tractors Taranto and Hopper and the dinosaur Prestia. I'm hoping the two new guys bring midfield pace. It feels to me we have recruited based on need vs best available, although this isn't usually the mantra.
