Looks like the camp may be held up there late this month just after the National Draft.

In exciting confidential news last week, the Yarrawonga Chronicle were told that the Richmond Football Club will be visiting Yarrawonga for a Community Camp this November, bringing players and coaching staff to the region for a multi-day camp of community engagement.

On Tuesday, November 25 and Wednesday, November 26, Richmond players will engage with local schools during the day before hosting an afternoon of activities at the JC Lowe Oval.

The initiative is designed to provide young footballers and fans with direct access to AFL talent, skills coaching, and a chance to learn from one of the league’s most celebrated clubs.

On the Tuesday a special Auskick clinic for all local junior players will be held after school before the YFNC AWJFL squads will have training sessions featuring Richmond players and coaches assisting with drills from 5.30pm – 6.30pm.

The night will conclude with a meet and greet with Richmond players and coaches after training.

In addition to the above, it is understood Richmond FC will also host an open training session on Wednesday, which is expected to draw local AFL supporters and Tigers fans from across the region.

The JC Lowe Oval, a facility that has been steadily upgraded with the support of many local businesses will become the focal point for this exciting community event.

It is the first time in several years that the Tigers have been in the region, last time holding a community camp in Wangaratta.

It is the first camp Yarrawonga has held for many years which is sure to provide excitement to local AFL fans in the hopes of their team travelling to Yarrawonga in the future.

AFL Victoria notes that this visit not only provides an opportunity for community engagement but also highlights the ongoing efforts of local stakeholders, including the JC Lowe Group, in supporting grassroots football and regional development.

AFL Victoria encourages community members and fans to attend and be part of this unique opportunity to meet AFL stars, gain insights into elite football training, and celebrate the sport in a regional setting.

The Chronicle will provide further information and updates as they become available.

Tigers set for Yarrawonga and North East Victoria community and training camp

Richmond will visit Yarrawonga and surrounding areas later this month as part of the AFL Preseason Community Camps.

The Club will visit schools, hospitals, and local football teams in the AFL North East Border and surrounding areas on Tuesday, November 25, and Wednesday, November 26.

Numurkah, Cobram, Chiltern, Wahgunyah and Albury-Wodonga are among the other towns the Club’s AFL stars will have a touch point with as part of the community visits.

Richmond will also hold a pre-season training session at Yarrawonga’s JC Lowe Oval on Wednesday, November 26 that will be open to fans.

The 3pm training session will be followed by a player signing and photo opportunity from approx. 4.45pm.

AFL North East Border and the broader Murray Bushrangers region, as well as Bendigo Pioneers catchment, make up the Club’s Next Generation Academy zone.

As part of this, the Club has also visited Wangaratta, Mildura, and Albury-Wodonga in recent years for the AFL Community Camp, expanding its footprint in those towns.

The Richmond link through the region extends to Aligned Leisure’s management of gyms, pools, and leisure centres in Albury-Wodonga.

Richmond CEO Shane Dunne said the trip would help the Club start the year with strong momentum.

“We know there are Richmond fans everywhere and particularly in the Yarrawonga and broader North East region,” he said.

“Connecting with these fans at schools and around the community across the week, as well as their presence at our open training, will create a great buzz.

“It will be good for the players to get away together, train hard, and give back to the community during our time in the region. We are all looking forward to it.”

Richmond draftees will join their teammates at the camp, with the Club currently holding picks 3,4, 38, and 81 at the Telstra AFL Draft on November 19-20.
