bad , bad miss and not the first time. Captains need to set the example, and getting those goals inspire, while missing them deflate.

Certainly did yesterday, heads dropped, so did shoulders, momentum lost, they all trudged to the 3 qtr time huddle

So costly, how costly? Will never know but ....l

Miss the set shot. Captains point.

Needs to kick that.

Was good but could have been better and had more impact.
j
Agreed should have stuffen well kicked that , was pretty damned quiet in first half too which is when Geelong set up what became a match winning lead ....finished the game well however a 4q effort would have been much better

Set shot goal kicking is the weakest part of Cotchin's game

I'll tell you another secret.
Kicking goals is what wins you games.
Set shots from 35 when your team has momentum and you need to kick them must be converted.
When its from your captain it lifts spirits.  Makes the work of others who got the ball there in the firstplace all the more worthwhile and can make vulnerable opposition even more vulnerable.

Fact captain Cotch failed at that as he did yesterday at a critical junction of the game in the shadows of three quarter time and last week in the third same end of the ground almost the same spot is a slur on his perfomance IMHO.

Now man the stuff up and you get over it princess.

They are not allowed to, fitness people (and I use that term very loosely) won't let them do extra goal kicking practice. It's the same at all clubs. Something to do with loads blah blah

Yep. He's done it about 7 times now. That time when he missed vs Sydney at the scg and then went and had shots after the siren.

Give us a spell Trent, that was a publicity stunt. Like you couldn't bloody do it at training :banghead

Tim Watson on Talking Footy last night said Cotch needs to go back to his 2013 form and lengthen his game. He can footpass well over distance as he showed back then. Watson reckons Cotch has now fallen back into trying to play too much like his junior footy days. He lends handballs so he can run on and receive the ball back; he does the same with his short chip kicks. Cotchin needs to kick longer and use his skills to split open the play. Both Watson and Carey said he's now an accumulator. Although he is Richmond best player, for Cotch to go to the next level (Joel Selwood's level), he needs to influence and attack games with his possessions like Selwood does.

And one couldn't argue with any of that

Carey also said he is a good player but needs to do the above to become an elite player and by doing that it would also improve his leadership

Nitpicking but it depends what he means by "well over distance" because IIRC he hasn't got a long kick. Definitely longer than 15m though ::)
