Is it 3 days or 3 business days? I always thought just 3 days but the first article says business days
3 days. If GC don’t match by 5pm Monday he’s officially ours.

Should we put bets on what time the paperwork goes through.  Knowing Neil Balme I would say 4:45pm this evening

Richmond's massive seven-year deal for Tom Lynch

Jake Niall
The Age
5 October 2018 — 9:14am

Free agent key forward Tom Lynch will join Richmond on a seven-year deal.

Lynch is set to lodge his contract offer from the Tigers on Friday, the opening day of the free-agency period.

Lynch is expected to earn an average of close to $900,000 over his seven-year deal with Richmond, who have had to make significant adjustments to their list - re-contracting the likes of Jack Riewoldt, Alex Rance and Trent Cotchin - to accommodate the former Suns captain, who was keenly sought by Collingwood and Hawthorn until Richmond won the race.

Lynch was paid more than $1 million this year at the Suns, meaning that he will take a substantial pay cut in his first year at Richmond.

While Gold Coast can match the seven-year term and force the Tigers into a trade, this possibility can be ruled out. The Suns will accept the compensation of pick No. 3, which could be used on either Izak Rankine or fellow South Australian Jack Lokosius or another highly rated teen in the draft pool.

The Suns will have picks two and three, potentially giving them access to Lukosius and Rankine or the King brothers, Max and Ben.

The seven-year deal for Lynch, who turns 26 at the end of this month, matches the length of term that champion Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin secured last year when he was a free agent, although Martin's wage is significantly higher at close to $1.2 million a season.

The long term allows the Tigers to spread out the payments, thus retaining key players. Reece Conca has already signed to switch to Fremantle as a free agent. Corey Ellis and Anthony Miles are set to join the Suns and Tyson Stengle wants to join Adelaide. Jacob Townsend's position is up in the air.

Seven years for Tom Lynch a risk for a key forward coming off a PCL injury who will be 33 but at that money absolutely worth the price of just under a million bucks a year.

Richmond lodges official bid for Sun Lynch

THE FIRST step towards making Tom Lynch a Tiger has been taken with Richmond officially lodging a contract offer that will make him a million-dollar man.

The Tigers wasted no time in submitting a deal reported to be for six years and worth $6 million when the NAB AFL Free Agency period officially opened on Friday.

After declaring he was set to leave Gold Coast at the start of August, Lynch confirmed football's worst-kept secret on Tuesday when he named Richmond as his preferred destination.

Collingwood and Hawthorn were the other clubs in the running to secure the Victorian's services, with Magpies coach Nathan Buckley even admitting mid-season he had met with the 25-year-old "awhile back".

However it was the lure of playing finals, lining up next to Jack Riewoldt, and his friendships with former Suns Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy that played a part in his decision to head to Punt Road.

Lynch is a restricted free agent, meaning the Suns will now have three days match the offer.

It is believed they will assess the scope of the deal to determine if they can bring in another free agent – having been linked to Geelong's George Horlin-Smith – without affecting the value of their AFL-awarded compensation.

The Suns are expected to net pick No.3 overall in this year's NAB AFL Draft for losing Lynch to the Tigers.

The media speculating once again.

Lynch is 25 years old (turns 26 at the end of this month). A 7 year deal would take him to he's 32 which isn't unrealistic for a key position forward.

In the normal course Lynch would get paid over $1m for the first 2 or 3 years. Even as much as $1.3. Then the $ decreases as he gets older and in years 6 and 7 he would be paid around $500K to $600K

So an average of $900K per season is not that far under what he would be worth.

We get him cheaper now but pay overs in the last couple of years. Plenty of time to sort that problem out at that time.
