We must absolutely challenge this pick and take it further.  Tantamount to cheating or fixing the outcome

Dare say that if we didn't have a CEO with loftier ambitions we probably would take them to court...and the AFL know it... :shh

That's ok, other clubs can expect a rogering too then if the AFL wants to be seen as consistent or they are going to be under some serious scrutiny.
Not bothered, we got bigger fish to fry.  We have some fresh talent coming through and have freed up some nice bucks.  Everyone shat on Ellis so bitching that we got pumped for him is pretty funny.

Absolutely effing cheated out of a 1st round pick.

Disgrace!

I hope we draft a gun with this pick and shove it up their clackers on a 3 peat the MF's.

Just had another read and I see that "at Their discretion they can change the pick"

So that's why this won't be going anywhere

Nothing to do with how good Ellis is or how highly supporters rate him, it's about the complete lack of transparency, the inconsistent application of rules and the blatantly orchestrated media campaign led by an employee of the AFL... :shh

Yeah the AFL are scum bags and make it up as they go.  The fact is they are a law unto themselves.  We have a bunch of salty media / interstate vested interests running a Trump style smear campaign against us and peasants are revolting so the AFL had to make a token gesture of stuffing us over with a poo pick.

Tom Browne (I know) reckons the AFL's secret recipe also includes what the player's current club is offering and not just what the other club has on the table (also includes the player's age and where the player finished in the B&F). He said our contract offer to Ellis was "very very modest because of significant salary cap issues created by recruits like Tom Lynch". So that's possibly the reason we only got a second rounder.

Pretty sure he was a first round pick when we picked him up, wouldn’t it be fair to get the same back.
since when did the football administration of our game become the socialist society of OUR game. Who voted for our club to being constantly disadvantaged

Shoddy stuff here.

Like someone else said, let's just stick it up 'em by using 39 on another unreal recruit overlooked by everyone else.

Not like we don't have blokes lining up to have a crack on Brave Brando's wing anyway.

Major league baseball have a transparent free agency compensation system for top tier players. Compensation is only attached to that player once in the life of their career regardless of how many times they move. Not sure in the exact figures but if they earn in the top 10% or similar their club is awarded an end of first round compo pick if another team signs them.
The AFL need to stop interfering in the non-performance of clubs and therefore manipulating the future standings / results. This is a big business for all clubs allows struggling clubs to have unfairly leapfrog other teams. I can understand allocating funding to improve / increase coaching resources and infrastructure or player retention.
Why not hold off awarding priority picks until after the trade period. They could turn things around by recruiting quality players and coaches like Brisbane and the Tigers in the not so distant past.
