Taking non-prescribed medication (sleeping pills) from a 'friend' would've been the main offence as far as the Club saw. As a footballer you don't put anything in your mouth you don't know exactly what it is and where it is from while all medication should be cleared by the Club doctor.

And then combining them with alcohol is the height of stupidity (no matter what his motivation). It can be deadly.

Wouldn't a fine have been better. A fine can have a deterrent effect. It also hurts the player rather than the team. It was his first breach of the club rules some leniency is required. However I understand by suspending him the club wants to send a firm message and I am guessing here but believe the club thought that if he is suspended his teammates will get stuck into more for letting down the team

so the afl have tested martin for illicit drugs? Under their policy of non disclosure, even if the sleeping tablets had been taken to counter some form of upper, we will never know about it.

We'll know about it if he gets to 3 strikes . . . Personally I think this will be 'wake up call' this boy needs (no pun intended) to go on and be a superstar. Removed that 'cancerous' type 'friend' of his in Connors (best news from yesterday), couple that with the 2 weeks suspension and the actual kick up the backside his dad will give him, AFL watch out  :shh

i'm sure this will be significant in this kids wake up call.

You shouldve seen what happened when dusty didn't want to make his dad some eggs for breakfast...

Dusty is travelling up with the team this week.

Tiger in exile to travel north with team

Tue 10 Jul, 2012

BANNED Tiger Dustin Martin - who is serving a club suspension after taking sleeping pills and missing a Monday training session - will travel to Cairns on Thursday when Richmond heads north to take on Gold Coast.

Martin has been allowed to join the team, despite being in the middle of a two-week club suspension.

Richmond midfielder Shaun Grigg revealed on Tuesday that Martin would make the trip.

"He's in at the club this week, training hard," Grigg said.

"He's going to come to Cairns, so it's good for him to be back.

"He just loves being around the boys and he's a very valuable player for us, so we're looking forward to getting him back in a couple of weeks."
