The Herald Sun reported Martin’s plan was still to play this weekend, but Richmond was putting no pressure on the midfielder, whose mental health is the club’s No. 1 priority.

Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph told Fox Footy that Martin’s absence is due to him still battling the grief of his father’s death.

“My understanding is he’s just heartbroken by the loss of his dad, who of course was a mentor, and he hasn’t really been able to find a person to replace him. Such an integral part of his life and just a great person to be a sounding board for him,” he said.

“Quite possibly (he’ll play this week). Dustin Martin has told the club that he still very keen to take on GWS on Sunday at the MCG despite missing this week’s training session so far with personal issue.”

No timeline for grieving Martin’s Richmond return

Richmond has strongly denied speculation Dustin Martin could quit football as he takes an indefinite break from the game to mourn his father Shane.

Is ‘sensitive’ Dusty Sydney-bound? (HeraldSun)

Is ‘sensitive’ Dusty Sydney-bound?

Fears have been raised over the mental health of star Tiger Dusty Martin, with speculation he may soon retire. But could he also be considering playing for Sydney?

Further disgraceful reporting by a HUN "journo"

Though when we're talking about Mike's son Tony, journo is not the word I'd use

Is it too much to ask to let the bloke have some space and time.

As I posted the other day it can be bloody tough grieving. The loss can hit you when you least expect it and hit hard so damn hard

Dusty needs time to do things at his own pace and way. I don't think it asking too much

Articles like this don't help. But I'd expect nothing less from Tony Sheahan and the HUN

Disgusting if true.

No clarity on Dustin Martin’s return, says Hardwick (Age)

Dimma post-game talking about Dusty:

No clarity on Dustin Martin’s return, says Hardwick

Champion midfielder Dustin Martin owes the Tigers nothing, according to Richmond coach Damien Hardwick, who said there would be no pressure on the superstar to return from personal leave.

Martin sat out Sunday’s win at the MCG over the GWS Giants after taking indefinite personal leave during the week.

Hardwick said Martin, whose father Shane died suddenly in New Zealand in December last year, would be given the space he needs.

“It’s just society in general sometimes,” Hardwick said.

“Dustin Martin is a wonderful player. Do we want to see him play? Yeah. But also, it is what it is. It’s a personal issue, and we leave it at that.

“Dustin has repaid this club 10 times over.”

Asked whether he had a timeline on when Martin could return, Hardwick said: “I’ve got no clarity.”

“It’s a personal issue, and we’ll just leave it at that, and we’ll work our way through it,” he said.

Tom Browne on 7news just now said he has spoken with Richmond "insiders".

- Meeting with manager Ralph Carr at 7pm tonight.
- Dusty still processing the death of his dad.
- Hasn't been back to the club since he left for personal reasons.
- No timeline on when he will return.

Geez, thanks for telling us nothing new, Tom  ::).

There's a growing confidence that Dustin Martin will be back playing in a matter of weeks, countering speculation that he might never play again.

Caroline Wilson claims that Richmond never believed that Dusty would retire from the game.
