Subbed off
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

A glimpse of 'September Dusty' is better than nothing

Howard Kimber

Most football fans probably can't quite smell spring just yet, but it looks like a whiff of September hit Dustin Martin's nostrils on Sunday. In a personally challenging season that has seen Dusty's on-field returns at a career low, the finals specialist returned to his best against the Eagles before being subbed out of the second half with 'hamstring awareness'. Martin had 17 disposals and eight score involvements to half-time and was looking ready to return to the form that has delivered three Norm Smith Medals. The club said it was taking a 'conservative approach' in deciding to bench its superstar, something 100,000 or so Tiger members will hope is an understatement.

Tigers hopeful ‘just tightness’ for Dusty

By AAP
3 July 2022

Richmond will wait for an update on Dustin Martin's fitness after the superstar was substituted out of the club’s important 35-point win over West Coast with hamstring awareness.

Martin was taken out of the game early in the third term and is in doubt for the crunch clash with Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

"I think he's just got tightness at this stage," Damien Hardwick said about Martin after the match.

"We’re pretty forthright with that sort of information, so once we know, you guys will know."

Martin helped set up the win over West Coast in the first half, finishing with 17 disposals, eight score involvements, four clearances and 359 metres gained.

"He was really good, electrifying, which was great," Hardwick said.

"He had his agility back and the ability to move the ball and see the ground, you know, his kicking was A1 today also.

"It was a good game, a really good game."

Could be a result of his part time training regime this year. Not fully stretched at this point

So scans have shown a small tear for Dusty. Might see him for the Dockers game.

Strain not tear. Confirmed to be out this week and yeah I’d probably assume they’ll rest him the following week against north regardless of whether he’s right to go or not.

Club statement:

Martin injury update

Scans have confirmed that Dustin Martin suffered a small hamstring strain in the third quarter of yesterday's match against West Coast.

Martin will not play this weekend, with the club to re-asses the short-term injury again next week.

Minor hamstring strain with no ice applied. Would be surprised if he missed more than 2. Reckon he would play next week if it wasn’t against the Roos.
