This bloke should retire, end of convo.

Been great, legendary, but it's time.

Can you list out the number of players who you believe are in worse form then dusty? Because I can honestly list more than half the team.

Really baffles me that people are on here every week calling for him to retire. At the very least he gives tiger fans a reason to go to the footy very similar to how we atleast had Richo when we were the absolute pits.
Richo played til his end and was always great.. dusty is nothing close to his best.. Richo was still good enough to keep playing.   Dusty form has been very poor. It's not my fault the truth hurts
Oh to be in the clicke on this forum. Only the ones in the clicke know what they are talking about , the rest of us are just fos...
The hard truth is Dusty better start performing, because it seems they are gifting him 300 just because of his past greatness, and that is wrong

What in gods name are you talking about?

There is a difference between saying someone is performing poorly and coming in here after every game and in between over exaggerating and disrespecting one of the all time greats of our club. You’ve similarly taken pot shots on the Cotchin thread questioning his character.

I’m still yet to see you provide the names of players who should be in the side in place of this never ending list of current players you’ve said should never play another game again.

After the you post this dribble it is as clear as day who you are.  :banghead

Anyone with half a brain knows it’s the pig formally known as TigerTimeII

It’s funny reading the old abusive messages I got from him back then .. identical to the dribble he rubbishes on with these days

This is the brainpower of a bloke judging the character of a Trent Cotchin or wanting to treat a Dustin Martin like dirt. Kick a Naismith out without a thank you. Germ of a human being.

A part of a PM received from TigerTimeII goes as follows -

well done, your mum must be oh so wet

My life is never boring and football isn't my life.
Just because I'm looking forward and for what's best for the teams future and not being stuck in the past, does not mean I'm disrespectful to past champions.
The fact that all you in the clicky group don't get it, isn't my problem. Do you seriously think being outcast here or anywhere will change my life and give me sleepless nights lmao.
As soon as someone on here has a different opinion they are outcast and ridiculed.. days more about you guys than me

You have none of those things.

You live in a one bedroom apartment and most likely spend your days posting on here and drinking out of goon bags, watching the Bold & The Beautiful while only wearing underwear which probably has holes in them.

it may well happen regardless and all the real experinced players are gone real soon.

That would be a huge mistake weather we are winning or losing you need a genuine balance of experience and youth.
While we are struggling and having to rebuild we do need to favour playing more youth but we cannot play just youth.

Keep Lynchy going if his body allows for another three seasons but we need quality youth coming thru in his role we need to nget em to at least 30 games while he is there even then its most likely too early.
Same goes for Dusty if he wants another season it won't hurt.

Who on the list is Dylan Grimes actually keeping out of a game. Maybe Jacob Bauer IFwe play him as a defender. Nathan Broad is 31 do we just dump him as well. His replacement in Brown is already getting games and will be ready to take over when Broad retires. On it goes.

Finding the right balance is important. We have problems mainly because the next tier down far too many  of our mature players need to go before the vets.

We have to play 5 or 6 kids but dont throw em to the wolves play them with experienced players around them .

A sliding door moment and everyone is fit.

Vlastuin 30yo - Miller 24yo - Gibcus 21yo
Brown 20 yo - Balta - 24yo - Rioli 27yo.  That is a great mix of youth and experience.

Trezise 21yo  - Taranto 27yo  - Broad 31yo
Nankervis  29yo - McAuliffe 19yo  - Prestia 31yo  That is 4 junior players playing alongside our better players none are being thrown to the wolves.

Coulthard 22yo  - Lefau 25yo - Campbell 19yo
Ryan 23yo  - Lynch 31yo - Bolton 25yo   Only Campbell is a junior yes it a bit inexperienced.

Martin 32yo - Hopper 27yo - Sonsie 21 yo - Baker 27 yo - Smith 19yo

Thats 7 juniors 18 -21. 4 developing 22 - 24 with a whole heap of mature and vets around them. Its this sort of balance we need every week.

Many of our vets are still so far in front  developing and mature types in particular that you just play em.

What falls out of the holes when he sits down.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Dustin Martin’s manager Ralph Carr has begun gauging interest in his player with rival clubs despite the likelihood the Richmond legend will retire or play out his career at Punt Rd.

Martin has expressed to teammates that while he is still enjoying his time at Richmond his motivation to train and play no longer reaches the heights of the club’s premiership years.

Martin can no longer train with the same intensity
as he battles soft-tissue complaints including the calf issues that have seen him miss two games this year.

Carr told the Herald Sun in March he and Martin would sit down at year’s end to consider the unrestricted free agent’s future.

Clubs are aware they would likely have to offer him a two-year deal on good money well above $500,000 a year and at this stage have reservations about that kind of contract.

They are aware Martin is mentally fatigued and wonder if he can find that fire in the belly as he turns 33 next month.

Vice-captain Liam Baker’s strong preference is believed to be a trade to West Coast, instead of Fremantle.

I dont think he is the only one. On and off the field the standards have dropped. exhibit a is meehan getting the nod ahead of....no one.

"The way he is playing now, you probably wouldn't offer him another deal."
"You've changed your tune!"

The panel was stunned by Caro's call, as they discussed whether it would be best for Richmond if this is Dustin Martin's last season.

‘Clubs aren’t a charity’: Dusty in spotlight over ‘shocking’ form as AFL future questioned

James Dampney

One of the modern greats of the AFL, Dustin Martin is facing speculation he has “lost the hunger” as he battles through the latter stages of his career.

A Norm Smith medallist in three Richmond premierships in 2017, 2019 and 2020, Martin’s place in AFL history is secure.

But the 32-year-old is struggling through 2024 to date, with a calf injury partly limiting his production as he crawls towards 300 career games.

Martin, who missed the opening round clash with the Gold Coast and round three against the Swans, has appeared in seven matches this season, which have all been defeats.

He is averaging 19.4 disposals, compared to a career average of 24.4 over 15 seasons, and has kicked just four goals, with two coming in his season-opening loss to Carlton.

Sitting on 296 games and off-contract at the end of this year, Martin’s future was discussed on Channel 9’s Footy Classified.

“Footy clubs aren’t a charity,” Kane Cornes began.

“(Richmond coach Adem Yze) has been pretty adamant, he’s said a couple of times one of the jobs he wants to tick off is to extend Dustin Martin’s contract.

“Is that the right call?”

Matthew Lloyd jumped in first, questioning the type of money Martin could earn if he continued on into 2025.

“Adem Yze has to be stronger than he’s ever been before about what is best for Richmond,” the Essendon great said.

“And I’m not sure spending $750,000 on Dustin Martin is best for Richmond.”

AFL journalist Caroline Wilson immediately jumped on that figure.

“There’s no way they would spend that money on Dustin Martin,” she said.

“$500 (thousand) absolute tops. At the moment he’s limping towards 300 (games). He wouldn’t get any more than that, I am certain, if he’s playing the way he is now.

“He’s limping towards 300 and the way he’s playing now, you probably wouldn’t offer him another deal.”

Six weeks ago, Cornes stated his belief Martin should retire at the end of this season, querying whether he would want to face questions over his form and place in the team in a rebuilding side.

Wilson pushed back on that assertion at the time, but has changed her tune after the Tigers champion’s last month of football.

“A lot’s happened in four weeks,” she said. “He was bordering on All Australian selection last year.

“If he goes on the way he’s going now, and he does seem to have lost the hunger, then of course he shouldn’t go on next year. Of course.

“Dustin Martin had had a couple of promising games back then. He’s had a shocking month.”

After a season-high 30 possessions against St Kilda in round four, he has struggled to make an impact since then, picking up 13, 18, 23 and 20 touches in losses to West Coast, Melbourne, Fremantle and the Bulldogs.

Last month, ex-AFL reporter Tony Sheahan claimed Martin was potentially eyeing an exit in the immediate future.

Martin’s manager Ralph Carr hit back hard at the speculation.

“Dustin at this point has no intention of retiring and he has never lost his love for AFL football,” he told the Herald Sun on April 9.

“The Richmond Football Club, the AFL and family has been an incredible support to him and I personally know that he wants to stay in the game as long as possible.

“I also want to thank all supporters of the game for supporting ‘the people’s champion’ Dustin Martin.

“He has been an unbelievably good player, but if he was to finish up at the end of the year or go away or find another club or whatever it may be, then he has the right to do that.

“I think he’s done enough in this game for us.”

If he is selected this week, Martin has another chance to get his first win of the season against the Lions in Brisbane on Saturday.
