No doubt the kid needs to keep improving and expanding on his game, but lets not expect too much too soon... has made massive inroads from where he was, he's doing something no one including Rance has been able to do and that's keep units like Cloke and Roughead quiet and out of the game when we were getting smashed through the middle. Im happy for him to really cement himself as a stopper first and foremost. Rnace will make up for the rebound when he gets back which in turn will free up all other defenders and give them an opponent one rung down in the pecking order. Baby steps guys, kid finally shows improvement and fills a need and we're already demanding he improves his rebound
well said tony.  :clapping :clapping :clapping

Another solid game from Astbury. Growing into his position nicely.

I always said he had a good footy brain hey chuck  :lol

I really liked him when we drafted him, saw what I thought were some really promising signs, then was cruelled by injury and subsequently looked slower than treacle... thought he was done by the end of last season. Good on him, really happy to see him improving and cementing himself as a player we desperately need ie a gorilla stopper!!

I think he has made Chaplin's position almost redundant. Been excellent.

Going well. Can still get better.
Needs to take them on as well as being a close checking type.

He has strength that Chappy and Rancer dont have.

disagree astbury has a role to do that has nothing to do with chaplin.
we now need to find someone to replace chaplin a big body like chappy but capable of actually defending.

play the two big kpds astbury and chappys replacement  and leave rance where he belongs playing as the third tall.

not sure where this fallacy of your kpds having to provide lots of rebound comes from.  astbury is our #1 tall stopper atm and his primary role is to nullify the oppositions best tall forwards hes doing that. at the same time he is getting his fair share of ball his stats stack up against nearly all kpds this yr.
if we lack run and rebound this yr dont blame astbury blame those around him he has his hands full with blokes likechaplin and grimes spudding it up.

You miss the point. Astbury is now doing the role on the gorillas Rance was last year which moves Rance into a role more suited to that of what Chaplin has been doing. Might be near time to give young McIntosh a chance in that third tall role..

:clapping what is this? You being the most positive on the thread?  ;D :thumbsup

If we can get him and Rance a better mate down there then all will be well in the world. Then we can worry about the small guys in the back half.

^ Totally agree with this

Shown massive improvement but is one of the main offenders of not moving the ball quickly out of the back half.

Good post, been extremely negative on Astbury in the past and couldn't be happier with how he is performing
