When you carry on knowing you're cooked, that's selfishness. Yeah he WAS a champion. Good clubs make the hard calls, the right calls. Sentimental crap doesn't help future success .

Really glad he is playing on, even if not in the 1s all the time. He'll be great for the development of Gibcus, Young, Banks & co. Shows he is a team man.

Incorrect. He wanted to play on. Fair enough too as long as he's treated the same as everyone else. Could bounce back a little this year hopefully

Let's hope the captaincy going to Nank alone helps his mindset

And there’s your problem.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Well they did re-sign for 2024 very last year, around round 5 or 6  I think it was

I thought it was a strange and poor call then as it made no sense.

I just hate seeing champions of our Club struggling

Reckon champion is a word used too loosely these days

Super player. Absolute gun when at his best. Not potting him or his worth, but I reserve use of the word champion.

Hart
Richo

Those blokes are champions

Rance, Dusty, Cotchin, Riewoldt etc, champions

I have Grimes a level below. In the Edwards, Deledio etc category. Sensational players, don’t get me wrong, but not champions.

Champ for me.

No way we'd have 19-20 without his best football and leadership down back

Champion footballers don’t often get the final year they deserve.

Sometimes it gets pretty messy through injury and a drop off in form .

Even Trent said in his book , there were times last year his place in the 22 couldn’t be guaranteed .

Players are exactly like us . We sometimes think we can go on for ever and the end will never come .But Impermanence is in all  facets of our life ,and sometimes it requires a wise head to give us a tap on the shoulder.
Not saying this is the case with Dylan at all just generally speaking

Surely you don’t have grimes and edwards in the same category as Deledio.

Two things separate Deledio from the like of Shedda. One has flags with us and the other doesn't. One stayed here forever and the other left after 11 years of fantastic service. But the bloke who left was also the one being chased by other clubs, getting great offers and refusing them until he finally decided it was time to move on

Got nothing against Brett for leaving. Still a sensational player for our club.

Do you have Grimes in the same category as Dusty, Hart, Bartlett etc ?

Not in the same ballpark

Grimes has been a sensational player, zero doubt. Absolute gun. But for me, isn’t a champion.

The only ytwo champions currently at Punt Road that I rate as such are Dusty and 'Ceasar'
