We should play lock down 1 on 1 man on man footy right from the start against Carlton. Run some hard tags on Gibbs and Murphy with Jackson and Farmer probably getting jobs. Simmonds at FF to provide a target forward line of Riewoldt Morton Nahas and Roberts who seems to be able to kick some goals. Thats for starters!

Well, you havent seen the rest of the rubbish on the list :banghead

Yeah well obviously I don't rate him as much as you do Jackie.
I'd rather be giving opportunities to younger faces who may be able to be moulded into a player of the future than Shane Tuck.

Who:

a) Is an very ordinary kick.
b) Is very poor defensively.
c) Is ingrained with bad habits.
d) Has difficulty following instruction/gameplans.
e) Has a general lack of respect by the opposition.

Tuck has a strong body and is good at getting the ball (that's his strength no doubt) but he's also good at giving it up to the opposition and letting his opponent run amok. Offensively he does not hurt his opponent & has been an integral part of a Richmond midfield that's been regularly flogged by it's opposition for years now.
Even if it takes time and short term pain, we need to do better than Tucky and I expect the 'transition' phase will see Shane phased out.
He might get the odd game until the likes of Foley & Cousins return but I don't expect him to play much. Nor do I want him to.

Sure he'll likely get beat hard but I'd rather see young Pat Contin being promoted to the senior list and being given a chance to gain experience over the course of what's no doubt going to be a tough year, than continue to play a member of the old guard who's ultimately been found short of the level.

My take FWIW.
Be interesting to see what Hardwick does with Shane in 2010.

Players don't put there head over the ball.

Don't people think Maxwell was out of line for saying something similar to this after the Collingwood game?  :P :whistle

The bloke on SEN said that it was poor skills, particulary from the senior players that hurt us. He named Tambling and Deledio as culprits for getting a lot of the ball and not using their opportunities.

Was that a fair/accutate call?

I thought the first quarter was OK - we played terrible (couldn't hit the side of the barn with some of our kicks) but remained in the game because they at leasd tried to fight it out

2nd quarter was terrible, woeful and anything else you care to throw in

3rd quarter was very good - that has to be norm not the exception, against really good side it probably still wont be enough but it gives you hope. Against weaker teams (those on par with us  ;D) it will win you a few games

4th quarter was simply diabolical .....

Our lack of leadership when things turn to pooh was on display for all to see yesterday (with the exception of Lids).... that for me at least is a massive problem... has been for yonks and continues to be

I did this  :lol :lol :lol :rollin when I read one of the media reviews that said "Newman & Jackson were solid contributors"

FWIW wayne lids played mainly on the grandstand side of the ground and I didn't think Martin was that good; solid yes but in my best no.

Unfortunately his disposal at times really let him down, missed the first option a few times and tried to do too much ....

But more later I'm heading out for a while ;D

In Tambling's case most definitely - thought Richie's kicking was ordinary yesterday. Lids - no; I thought on the whole he was good, yes he missed some targets and bombed it long into the F50 a few times but I didn't think his disposal was the worst yesterday

Another question for those that have seen a number of these games.

Putting aside your pre-conceptions about Polak, does the forward line structure better with him there or without him, or no real difference?

Just got home from game.
 :banghead

Can't wait for your report JS.... :lol

Whats the point, ::)
Tell you what I think but you will disagree anyway

Jack seriously here tell me what you think of McGuane

What about in the first quarter when he knocked the ball down straight down to an Essendon player instead of killing the ball, WTF.
Actually saw that quite well Jack and to the most part i agree with what you are saying but he also did get a fairly good shove as he was about to punch the ball and he had his body twisted on a weird angle, i was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that one.

TODAY, was the last ""tune up"" for round 1

I watched last years "tune up" game when we whacked Brisbane at Carrara, leading me to declare that Brisbane were no good and could not possibly make the 8.  A fortnight is a long time in football, especially that fortnight between the practice matches and the season proper.

lol about the kick ins, Id rather have newman kicking torps from the kick ins and putting the ball 80 metres out from goal to a contest rather than coughing it up with out on the fulls or just have a basic huddle strategy. Simple things- ok we will get picked of sometimes, but Id rather this than just giving up the footy for no reason.

Morwell East Football Club player Fingers lol won the half time kicking contest.
he pumped the ball kicking out of goal hitting the centre with every kick
thats a average over 70 metres every kick by a bloke who does not even train much lol.
A bloke who kicks better than AFL players from the goal square yet professional league players cant get it right how pathetic
Thats why l refuse to pay for memberships to watch players who should not be out there at AFL level when l can see players like him kick bombs & bags of goals weekly at a good bar price

Fingers would put Newman to shame in a kicking contest  ;D

No excuse for poor defending.  the option is to kill the ball or force the ball deep into pockets.
3 times in the same quarter l seen McGuane have & mental breakdown on footy basic's. He gave away goals which he created himself
He would never play league footy again under me until he put more thought into his game.
There is no questions be it his under preasure or whatever.  Its professional football & he should be mentally drilled to make the correct decision.
He should be at his elite now his apprenticeship is over. no more excuses for this player plz

Thanks for the report WP, BTW who do you think is on "par with us" because I actually think we are on our own island at the moment. Another point, I wanted Lids as our Captain and Cotch as Vice this year but everyone bagged me , don't you think he would have been the better option yesterday and for the future?

Totally agree but I am afraid it won't happen, like I said earlier they are sticking with the new game plan and the players that can't adapt will be moved on and replaced with players that can. So come round one unless their skills improve dramatically we will get done like a dinner, and our skill level and turnovers have ALWAYS killed us. People can blame Frawley and Wallace all they like but in the end it has been the players! They just don't have the skills to follow any game plan at the moment and most of them never will. Sorry for the doom and gloom post but it's time to realise we just aren't there and won't be for a long long long time.

I watched the game last night and the Bulldogs level of skill is...... well..... they will kill us by about 100 points +, thier foot passing is amazing. But thats my opinion about where we are at regardless of yesterdays result.
