The club tried to trade him but nobody wanted him. Even he was open to going.

In the end the club probably thought if he keeps himself fit, he is better than what we'd get with pick 100+ and so signed him on.

The indictment on the club here is that a former pick 6 could not be traded for even a packet of chips.
