I've been a fan, was terrible today. Needs to lose size and become more mobile. Have tried to play him as a 3rd tall but not tall enough and cant jump, give up on it.

Agree 100%.

We've done alot right with our youngsters and development, but bugger me we have crucified some players trying to turn them into players they are not.

Batchelor isn't a key backman. He has a decent long left shoe on him. For mine is a bit of a Joel Bowden mould. Don't think he should be going around playing on Key Forwards. Put him on medium forwards or play him loose. He's a good mark. He's as good as Lachie Hansen who destroyed us today.

Should be 4th back he is short

Shouldn't be in the bloody team at all for stuff's sake.  Been saying it for 12 months and have had few supporters but gee it's hard to argue against after today.  He's not bloody good enough, end of story.  Too soft, too many mistakes, not tall enough, not short enough, not skillful enough.

Shocking today

Fortunately for him he wasn't alone

But shocking, can't see him on the plane next week

Play him at Coburg and not in the seniors ever again.

can i add not quick enough. for me the real issues are height pace and just how fumbly he is.
hes a good sized height wise and size wise medium defender. as amedium though he has neither the height or size to play on the kpps.
as a medium he lacks touch pace and the kicking skills to play as either a running defender or a defensive player on smalls.his fumbles do my head in.thiose fumbles or the lack of polish or one touch is a problem that is endemic thru the team.
i sometimes wonder how he would go as a big bodied mid. would need to work on a few areas to do that.

Losing faith in Jake.
Didn't have second year blues but it seems he has third year blues.
Bastinac's goal when he punched meekly rather than marking in the first quarter shows how low his confidence is atm and based on his first two years how much of a whole it leaves us with defensively.
I still expect he will make it as I believe he can play but he needs to get back to instinctive basics if that sounds correct rather than worrying he is about to make a mistake and leaving himself in a half committed way at the contest.

we should hurry up and trade Batchelor out for whatever we can get because he wont be worth anything in about 12 months time.

21: Batchelor (30), Dea (21), Griffiths (18 ), Grimes (17), Helbig (15), Martin (63)
20: Conca (35), Elton (1)
19: Arnot (-), Ellis (21), O'Hanlon (8 ), Vlastuin (-), McIntosh (-), McDonough (-), Darrou# (-), Verrier# (-)
18: McBean (-), Williams# (-), Simon# (-)

I would be willing to give this group more time.

It is the other players on the list that should first come under the blowtorch

Love a good meltdown. Love how a kid who was admirable in his first season, picking up some decent scalps is now a soft dud at the age of 20 odd. Yeah let's bring in Ricky Pettered yiiiieeewwwwww

Jake Batchelor in focus

Tim Clarke says:  From a VFL point of view, he never played as well at that level as he did in the AFL.

We know Jake can play at senior level . . . he’s a good player.  But he’s just got to get his ground-level work right and probably also get a little bit more involvement with the ball.”

I've really enjoyed Tim Clarke's forthright views on our reserves grade players. At first I wasn't sure but now can see he is clearly trying to get more from our talented younger players who don't seem to be applying themselves and making the most of their talent.
Batchelor is a classic young player who may become an unfulfilled talent if he doesn't spring into action in 2014.
It's that simple Spud

I agree re: Batchelor :thumbsup it wasn't long ago that he was my favorite young bloke on the list. Gave him the benefit of the doubt last year but this year it was a bit harder to do so. To me comes across as a player who will never be the best athlete or a star, but a natural footy player, a solid contributor and when fit in the first 21 picked every week. I can't remember if it was an article or a video on roar vision with him this year where he acknowledged he had let himself down but was really keen to work hard and find his spot again.

Would be great for the club if he could show his impressive early form wasn't merely a fluke. If not then it's trade/delist this time next year I'm afraid. No more hanging around forever waiting for blokes to come good.
