A strongly built player, Jake was a key component of the Dandenong team playing 17 games in 2010.
Jake is a left footer who posses great depth and precision in his kicking, and will be looked upon to add further depth into our rebounding defenders. Jake had a really consistent year at TAC level, averaging 21 disposals across the season and playing a strong role in the Stingrays finals campaign across the half back line. Jakes best game was a 31 possession, 8 mark and 10 R50 game against Tasmania’s U18 National side in Rd 5. While Jake was prominent rebounding from defence in the TAC averaging 4 R50’s per game, he was also relied upon to be dangerous going inside F50. He set up many scoring plays with his precise kicking an also averaged 3 I50’s per game. Jake is really strong overhead and has the confidence to fly for his marks in defence and he possesses the hardness coach Damien Hardwick expects of his defensive unit. He had game highs of 10 marks in Rd 10 v Nth Ballarat and 11 marks v Sandy Dragons in Rd 15.
Jake is a real team player that does the small thing instinctively well. He is always there for his teammates either taking a chop out defensive mark in front of an opposition leading forward or to put on a strong block for his team at the stoppages.
In his own words:
What type of player are you?A half-back-flanker who takes the game on at every opportunity, setting up offensive attacks whist still having the ability to lock down on an opponent.
Which AFL player do you feel you resemble and why?Sam Gilbert - a very attacking backman with the ability to play on both talls and smalls.
What are your strengths as a footballer?A long left foot kick, good contested mark, I have the ability to read the game well and leadership.
What parts of your game would you like to improve?Endurance and skills below my knees.
Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?North Melbourne - because I loved Wayne Carey when I was a kid.
Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?My parents. They have given up a lot of time in their own lives to give me the best opportunity to succeed, in both football, and life in general, by taking me everywhere for 10 years.
