Phew!
Apologies for the length downtime while we migrated but, as WP alluded to, our former hosts did their best to hinder the whole progress at every step
. Despite claiming in their terms and conditions that there was a 15-day grace period regarding domain renewals they instead just turned off our domain name Sunday night which put us offline and prevented us from being able to change the Domain NameServer (tells the internet which server/IP address a website is located at) to that of our new host. Our old host also refused to reply to any contact or requests from our new host and even blocked our new host from FTP access. Add to that the 'export' function in phpmyadmin for large files/databases such as the one which supports this forum wouldn't work properly surprise surprise
. Fortunately I had backed up the site and knew enough unix to get around it all and our new host was very helpful all the way through regarding migrating everything and putting it all back together the right way.
In short without the technical computer jargon, our former hosts were their normal moronic mongrel selves who turned something that should have taken 2 days tops into a 4-5 day saga
. Oh well they once again justified our decision to change hosts despite the lengthy downtime and on the positive I learnt a fair bit about migrating websites and databases and unless I'm mistaken the site now seems to be responding faster
. Hopefully it's all go from here.
I'll tidy up the couple of minor superficial things left to do in the next 24 hours. If you find or experience any bugs let me or WP know.
Thanks everybody for your patience over the past 5 days and on behalf of WP and MT thanks for all your continued support and kind words
.
