5:15 PM Thu 03 Feb, 2011Jake King will captain Richmond in Friday’s match against the Indigenous All Stars in Alice Springs.
The decision was made by the Club’s leadership group, and announced to the players just before today’s training session at Punt Road.
King, 26, made his AFL debut with the Tigers in 2007 and has played 56 games.
He enjoyed his best season of league football in 2010, finishing ninth in the Club’s Best and Fairest award, and gaining prominence in a defensive-forward role.
Regular Richmond skipper Chris Newman will miss Friday’s clash, along with a host of more experienced players, including Brett Deledio, Jack Riewoldt, Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards, Luke McGuane, Daniel Jackson, Nathan Foley and Kelvin Moore, meaning the Tigers will take on the All Stars with an extremely young, but enthusiastic squad.
Richmond will wear black armbands in Friday’s match as a mark of respect for dual Jack Dyer Medallist and 1982 Norm Smith Medallist, Maurice Rioli, who died on Christmas Day.
