Your Early R1 Team Line Up vs Carlton
« on: February 15, 2011, 01:26:20 AM »
Batchelor Grimes Moore
Deledio Astbury Newman
Houli Martin Cotchin
Grigg Derrickx Morton
King Riewoldt Tuck
Graham Jackson Foley
McGuane Conners Griffiths
Conca (s)

Liked Batchelors first up effort and looks like a player
Houli and Grigg will play otherwise whats the point of having recruited them
Liked Derrickx can take a grab put him up forward resting in a pocket or at CHF
McGuane in to h ave a backup for Grimes who I like as a player
Griffiths would be doubtful due to injury but wouldnt mind seeing him play
Conca as the sub providing midfield run.
Edwards misses out at this stage but will probably play.
The rest are just the usuals

Anyway, Itll be interesting to see whats peoples early line up predictions for R1.

Newman Thursfield Astbury
Moore    Deledio    Conners
Morton      Jackson   Tuck/Grigg
White     Riewoldt   Foley
King    Griffiths   Edwards
Graham    Cotchin   Martin

Farmer/Nason Houli Conca(s) Derickx

I tried to pick the same team that beat Sydney last year.(which I regard as our best win since 2001) I had to find replacements for Tambling,Collins and Cousins.Foley and Morton pick themselves.I dropped Vickery for Derickx.

We really shouldn't be playing Tuck or Jackson. They are depth players. With the team below we can have a starting centre square of:
cotchin, martin and foley(all out attacking 3)
and a rotating midfield of:
deledio morton and grigg(grigg a defensive type midfielder)
and occasional stints by:
conca, houli etc
Dangerous midfield who will trouble any team.

Anyway, here's my Round 1 team:

FB: connors mcguane newman
HB: batchelor astbury deledio
C: edwards cotchin conca
HF: houli post morton
FF: taylor reiwoldt griffiths
FOLL: graham foley martin
INT: derickx grigg rance webberley

If Macdonald or helbig can get a game Round 1 as a midsized forward then that will balance our forward line out nicely

LMAO @ playing some of those dudes over Moore, Ranga and Tuck.

McGuane has to out perform the Gloveman to get a game.

If we want to move forward we shouldn't play Tuck or Jacko. Think we can do better than Moore as 3rd tall or 3rd small defender also

Do we have a better tagger than Daniel Jackson at the moment ? Do we still need his "bigger body" in the midfield ?

Do we gift Batchelor a game in round 1 ?

Can we afford to take 3 first gamers into rd 1 ? (Conca/Batchelor/Derickx) ?

Is selecting a team that is capable of winning rd 1 more important than the "big picture" ?

I'll have a crack:-

B: Newman-Gourdis-Moore
HB: Deledio-Astbury-Batchelor
C: Connors-Cotchin-Foley
HF: Houli-Riewoldt-Conca
F: Morton-Griffiths-King

R: Graham-Martin-Jackson

I: Derrickx-Taylor-Tuck SUB: Grigg

NO NAHAS and NO WHITE.

Edwards back to Coburg to learn how to kick.
