Newman has been a serviceable captain at best and i think enough is enough

He should enjoy the next dozen games as I hope it's his last as captain, and one can only hope he spends more time at Coburg next year.

He is out of form and IMO is only getting a game cause we have no depth

We cannot play both Newman and Houli

Agree we can't play them both Daniel.  Thought both were average today and both had uncustomary poor disposal but at least Houli got a bit of the ball, Newman was very quiet.

Thought Houli did well today. Newman lacks certainty and direction. He looked very tired at the end of the game.

What's he tired for? Must be all the directing and screaming I see him do every week.

Seen enough of him for good.

You have to ask yourself if he went down tomorrow would we miss him?

No

If we lost him tomorrow we would miss him big time! But on other hand if we had a list with no injurys I doubt we would miss him in the form that he is in at e moment ;D

What about a move to the forward line? We have enough small backmen already.

He's clearly too slow to play and have impact anywhere. Even his kicking has lost penetration. Given he was prepared to sack a coach for under performance (or try to) he shouldn't be surprised to get the flick himself. The least he can do is stand down at the end of the year as captain. It embarrassing how far ahead cotch, lids and foley when fit were compared to him
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Not Newy's fault today his teammates upfield couldn't kick goals from 10-30m out  :banghead. If we had kicked at goal like a professional AFL team should we would've won today by 10+ goals.

Newy is struggling plain and simple.

Melbourne's first goal his error shoes this.

Can't kick and cant penetrate with his kicking and is struggling in general play.

Just doesn't have the same assuredness that I have seen in him in the past.

Captaincy will be Cotch's or Lids or both co-captains next year.

Pretty harsh on Newman IMO.

Certainly a down year but I thought he was one of our best last week and was OK today.
I rate Newman alot better than Houli.

Captaincy wise who knows. As much as Cotchin looks to have everything that a captain should have, I have a feeling Lids will be captain next year. Let Chimp concentrate on becoming an elite player of the competetion and learn to deal with taggers before we slap the skipper tag on him aswell.

i think your confusing Cotch with Lids

Lids is the one who struggles with a hard tag.

Cotch will be fine and will be our next captain, without a shadow of a doubt.

That's right Daniel. Oppositions coaches have already seen Cotchin as untaggable, so they shift the hard tag to Deledio (makes sense to try and shut us down on the outside anyway). Cotchin seems like the kind of bloke who will relish the captaincy and be even more remarkable.
