They flew out this morning, we back home well before lunchtime

Rubbish.  Trained in Melb this morning, back home around 6.00pm this evening, same as us.
Well done Smokey. I'm glad that someone else recognises the rubbish that one self proclaimed expert of all things posts.

Give him some credit though - I couldn't think up the rubbish that he does.

If the club had waited and the clouds got worse and they were stuck in Sydney, we would probably have the the same people whining that if they had caught a bus straight away they would be home by now.

So are my ways higher than your ways,

Agree al, case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't"

Bottom line was no-one knew what was going to happen today. Virgin as an airline made a decision to fly planes this morning out of and into Melb but it was only certain flights not all flights, again another little point that gets lost in someone people's argument

Here's my scenario:

I got a TXT at 3.20pm yesterday to say my flight home had been cancelled. I spoke to QANTAS at 3.40pm and was advised the first available flight they could put me on was the 12pm flight today with NO GUARANTEE that would go ahead. I know someone who was booked on the 11am flight out of sydney today, it got cancelled at 10.15am, next available flight they could get on was the 2.30pm flight tomorrow (Tues).

We sat around and had decided if our flight today had been cancelled then we were hiring a car to get home. Fortunately at 11.30am they said our flight was going ahead because they (QANTAS) had rec'd clearance from the Volcanic Ash experts in Darwin that it was safe to fly at normal levels.

I was extremely lucky

From the HUN:

THEY say a trip home is made longer by a loss - and a key defender blowing a vuvuzela.

Richmond players are doing their best to liven up a 10-hour road trip today after the nation's aviation havoc forced the Tigers to catch a bus home from Sydney.

The Tigers were due to leave Sydney last night after their 10-point loss to the Swans, but were forced to remain in the Harbour City after a cloud of volcanic ash cut flights into and out of Melbourne.

They now face a 10-hour trip down the Hume Highway before arriving in Melbourne this evening.

Essendon players, stranded in Perth, are also due to arrive home late tonight after securing a flight out of WA at 7.05pm.

And the Brisbane Lions are scheduled to fly out of Melbourne at 6.15pm.

There was room to take the players in 2 groups back to Brisbane, but they decided at the last minute to leave players who played last night and fitness  coach go to St.kilda for rehab and meeting
they didnt train in Melbourne. standing in water for half an hour aint training.
Either is having a bite to eat at the stokehouse training either

just checked airport info, 7 virgin flights have already landed in Melb from sydney this morning
Our players will get back on the bus after dinner tonight, :banghead :banghead

Another clueless post Jack. Kick the CLub when they deserve it not becuase it's a good fit for you

I dont care how many Virgin flights landed at Melb this morning ex Sydney.

I was at Sydeny airport this morning and it was CHAOS. At the hotel I was staying at (Stamford across the road from the Airport) notifcation was that some Virgin flights had been cancelled FACT

The FACTS are all flights last night were cancelled.

FACTS are Virgin did not out & were not putting any extra flights on today to get people home. That isn't a RFC issue it is the incompetence of the AFL's new official carrier

All Virgin did was simply moved people onto other flights. THE RFC had 40 odd people to put on a flight so there was no where to put them. Get a grip on reality. You weren't there so you have no idea what happened and what went on

Call tell you this if the AFL were still aligned with QANTAS they would have been on the 12.00pm flight or QANTAS would have added a flight just like they've always done with the AFL - not a doubt in my mind I would have got shunted to another flight  ;D

AFL jumped into bed with Virgin - the reap the "benefits"

virgin could of organised a flight, its only 22 odd seats for gods sake.
Not clueless at all.
FACTS ARE they had 8 planes from Syd to Melb before 11am today.
You would of thought Virgin could of moved passengers to accomadate the AFL
where did i bag the club ? Bagged the AFL, they orgnaise the travel on behalf of the club

If Brisbane beat us the media will blame the bus trip. Healy, Russell and King earlier tonight on 3aw and then Lloyd and Darcy later on OWAAT were all going on about it saying a 10-hour bus trip isn't ideal between back-to-back interstate trips and they will be watching how we start and finish off against the Lions. OWAAT also showed Jack at Tullamarine tonight putting his bag in his boot. He looked in good spirits after the bus trip.

Richmond hits the road on bus trip from Sydney to Melbourne

THEY played vuvuzelas, were entranced by cult surf flick Point Break and stopped in Goulburn to stock up on pink Snuggies.

Richmond endured a 12-hour bus ride from Sydney, but says it will not be affected by the short week before its Saturday night clash against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

The Tigers defended jumping on a bus at 8am rather than waiting for a flight amid the travel chaos that has been caused by the Chilean volcano ash.

Tigers chief executive Brendon Gale said it was a chance to bond for a young playing list.

While Richmond has only three days before flying back to Queensland, the Lions arrived home only late last night after delays.

As fate had it, Richmond could have flown home by mid-afternoon, but the club said it was not prepared to risk another night in Sydney.

"We were given a flight at 4.45pm, but it wasn't guaranteed, so we said, 'Right, we are on the bus', and the guys worked through the night to put plans in place," Gale said.

"In the circumstances it was probably a good outcome because Brisbane's afternoon flight was delayed and they wouldn't have got home until 9pm or 10pm.

"Part of going on the road is building resilience and togetherness. They have had three stops and had plenty of exercise and had the balls out and had a bit of fun with their tweets and so forth.

"It's not ideal, but it could have been worse given some people have had their travel plans thrown into chaos."

Four clubs were caught up in the air travel mayhem, with Essendon getting home from West Coast also late last night.

The Bombers got a 5pm flight from Perth, but will give Saturday's opponent North Melbourne an extra 1 1/2 days' preparation.

"We would have loved to have gone home last night, but it hasn't been the worst thing for us," coach James Hird said.

"We got to spend some time together as a group, done a good recovery session and we'll go home in a couple of hours. It's turned out OK."

North coach Brad Scott, captain Brent Harvey and players Andrew Swallow and Michael Firrito were in Queensland until Monday after a match review.

Could have, should have FACTS are Virgin didn't - end of story. Your very first post on this topic you bagged the club go back to page 1.

Bus trip would be because the club is too tight to fork out for accom.
Bzzzzzz - Bad Call if true

Its true.
If we were Carlton, there would be a private jet to the rescue

Virgin didn't move anyone on earlier flights to accomodate the AFL. By all reports the earliest flight the team could have got on was 4.45pm so that meant they woiuld have got home around the same time as the bus

Nor did Virgin attempt to put any extra flights on to get people home...

No - Ox said about the club being too tight to pay for extra accomodation" and said "bad call if true"

You replied "it's true"  = whack at the club when you didn't know the FACTS of what was going on
