Our defence did not have the confidence when the pressure mounted to make the required risks to move the ball on quickly. This is a combination of incompetence and inexperience. This will improve over time but how do you instill confidence in the younger players in the backline while removing the poor/average defenders. Even when Grimes, Astbury and/or Moore returns it will take 'time' for them to get used to playing together and gain that confidence. At the moment though, our fear of failure is becoming our biggest reason for failure of all.
Our midfield is too young, too reliant on too few, too weak. Cotchin can not do it alone and at the moment he is. Dusty isn't a consistent performer at 19, Foley too small to fight out a season at the bottom of packs and Jackson an athlete not a footballer. Conca will make it as a dangerous outside player initially, inside player later. His size will make little difference - no more than it does/did for Harvey, Mitchell, Cousins, etc. We can't wite off anyone after one season. Helbig will join the group but it all comes down to time, Time, TIME!!! God I hate waiting withour garentees
I have been so disappointed over the last 3 weeks but the person I'm most angry at is the Board - 2 games we would have won sold. The moneys great for the club, but has &^%$#% our momentum and any chance we had to finally make finals this year.
