I'm not sure Ivy can jump any more. Will give it his all but will continue to struggle against the more athletic types.

Hasn't been able to jump since probably 2013.

Shaun Hampson actually leaps and contends the ruck a lot better but unfortunately offers less around the ground.

Between them they're one decent ruckman, and generally a liability in our aspirations for a flag IMO.

If they were playing high jump and not football Hampson may be a viable option

But alas

Exactly, and if we were playing rugby and all Maric had to do was run into people it would be great.

Shame our club really hasn't chased down a better ruck option over the last two years. Maric will probably have one solid season left in him and Hampson apparently has a dicky knee that won't get better.

With options like Zac Smith going to Geelong so cheaply we really should have taken a shot at a young one...

Forgotten Tiger Ivan Maric back to face Power

AFL.com.au
30 June 2016

RUCKMAN Ivan Maric is back in Richmond's team for the first time since round six after Shaun Hampson was not able to recover in time from a knee injury.

Hampson hurt his right knee in the dying minutes of last Saturday's win against the Brisbane Lions and was also affected by the flu during the week.

Tigers coach Damien Hardwick is confident Maric could perform in Friday night's clash against Port Adelaide – in what will be only his third AFL game for the season.

"Shaun won't play this week. It's obviously been a short week for us," Hardwick said at the airport on Thursday.

"(Maric has) been in good form at VFL level, so it's great to have the big fella back."

“Both are going to be valuable contributors for us going forward.”

The Power have been using defender Jackson Trengove as their primary big man after Matthew Lobbe and Dougal Howard succumbed to knee injuries. Former Bomber Paddy Ryder is serving a season-long suspension for doping.

Hardwick said there was a combination of reasons for vice-captain's absence from the senior team.

"In fairness, he was injured through the pre-season and Shaun just grabbed that spot. Possession's nine-tenths of the law," Hardwick said.

"Shaun actually performed pretty well and Ivan was probably a little slow to get up and going."

Maric, 30, hasn't played at any level for more than two weeks, in a match against Werribee on July 12. The Tigers had the VFL bye a fortnight ago while Maric sat out last week as a precaution after Hampson was injured in the AFL.

He'll probably  have his contract extended by the end of the week.

Unfair to play him. Just embarrassing the poor bloke now and destroying his legacy. Let him see out his days peacefully in the VFL then maybe give him a farewell in Round 23 - preferably as a stay at home FF.

Agreed. Felt for him last night. Looked like a triple bagel at 3 qtr time.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Sadly Ivan has suffered a career ending injury several seasons back & can't overcome it.
His body has had enough & its not as if he has not trained hard to try get back. His just done unless a miracle happens
