Ivan Maric contract, unlikely to be at Richmond in 2017 AFL season, says Brian Lake

THREE-TIME premiership Hawk Brian Lake says Ivan Maric’s AFL career is seemingly over, with the ruckman unlikely to be on Richmond’s list next season.

Maric was dropped from the Tigers’ line-up to take on the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, following a two-disposal effort against Port Adelaide in Round 15.

After featuring in 22 of a possible 23 games in 2015, the 30-year-old has played just three games so far this season, with the Tigers opting for Shaun Hampson to be the No. 1 ruckman and Ben Griffiths as the back-up.

In his three AFL matches this season, Maric has been dominant in the hit-outs but failed to accumulate much footy around the ground, averaging a career-low six touches.

Lake said Maric, who’s out of contract at the end of the 2016 AFL season, was unlikely to be on the Tigers’ list in 2017.

“Unfortunately, I think ‘The Mullet’ is gone,” Lake told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight.

“The game’s just changed … when you’re a ruckman now you’ve got to do a bit more than just the tap work. You’ve got to contribute around the ground.

“Just look at Jackson Trengove from Port Adelaide, he’s not a designated ruckman but he can provide the centre clearances, around the ground marks and he’s more mobile.”

Ever since crossing over the Punt Road from Adelaide ahead of the 2012 season, Maric has been a faithful and respected servant at Richmond.

He had a career-best season in 2012 and finished third in the club’s best and fairest count. A month later, he was added to the Tigers’ leadership group then appointed vice-captain alongside Brett Deledio at the start of the 2015 season.

But with the Tigers’ 2016 finals hopes in tatters, Lake said Maric was likely going to be part of a Richmond list clean-out come season’s end.

“We see some ruckmen now and it’s just past their time. They can’t move and they can’t jump as well,” Lake said.

“He’s been fantastic for the club, but I think he’s gone.”

Career low average of six touches for Maric = career high average for Hampson after 10 years

Got to pity those supporters who wallow in mediocrity

What we need is for both Maric and Hammer to be injured so we can make the big girl first ruck and see how he goes.

Ivan is finished

True tiger at heart and therefore determined to waste a position on the Pies list

He knows he would be a waste at Tigerland and that everyone involved is too incompetent to realise it

Probably one of those player/coach positions.

Otherwise laughable seriously.

Pies want him apparently.

I find this a bit strange.  Maric, as much as i love the bloke is well and truely done (I don't like the term "cooked" they aren't a roast chicken lol)  and yet Cloke (another done player) was dropped several times.  Surely, the same thing is just going to happen to Maric?  Why show interest in a finished bloke, when youve publicly show dissatisfication with another finished bloke???

Agree but big Ivvy has been past it for a little while now and cannot pass the blame onto this teammates for this one. Didn't contribute either...
