Pull your in and go and look at his stats prior to this year. I'm talking about when we were trading for him. No one know too much about the lad and going by the stats it didn't look like he was much of an upgrade. I'm not talking about this season you slapper. My post was about how good he has been for us. Stats don't mean everything, sometimes you need to watch a bloke in person to see what they really offer. Maric is one of those blokes

Pull your head in, danielle. stuff me, you'd think someone would have enough common sense....
hes had another great game today gave our mids an armchair ride again and hes become indispensible. imo is the aa ruckman atm.
but you know your right, big ivan battled real hard for any sort of consistency at adelaide. he most certainly hadnt made it as a player and a awful lot of his games were underwhelming to say the least, i thought him well worth getting but i had serious doubts about useing pick 35 on him a 26 yr old ruckman who could not get a regular game. lot of risk there to be useing that pick.

ask any adelaide supporter  they loved him but the gripe was he would play 2 or 3 good games and then go missing for long periods.

as its panned out we have found a very good ruckman and credit to those in charge on this one, hartley i think it was, was keen on big ivan for yrs. now we need to go out and find his long term replacement and get him in our system asap in preparation for when ivan wont be around in 4 or 5 yrs time.

Get his replacement in our system ASAP? What drugs are up your ort?

He's just turned 26 years old in Jan? He's got another 5-6 years left. ....

We have 3 players from other teams in our top 22 now but I think Maric is the best pick up of the lot.  Apart form these three how long since we got any decent players from other teams? Stafford ? Brodrick ? Name a few ????? Cousins lol (not sure you can count him as from another team)

Loving the Mullet and so must Cotch ,Lids, Martin and the rest of the midfield.
Here , kitty kitty. Here , kitty kitty.   AAAUGH!

what left your glasses behind somehere. i ssaid he will be around for 4 or 5 yrs but stop and think for a minute. how long do you think it will take to develop a  ruckman to get to ivans stage. 3 yrs 4 yrs 5 yrs maybe. nope if we want his replacement we want him in our system asap. we probably should not have all the eggs in one basket and have two.
i suppose you would like us to draft a 18 yo ruckman just as ivan is about to retire.

I didnt realise how much Vickery helps the side giving big Sir Mullet Ivan a spell up forward late in the third turned the game on in our favour and flattened the Hawks . Must admit it was just a joy to behold the whole team played their role perfectly

If Vickery can step up and play the stuff role then Ivan will get that rest during games he needs and provide us with that extra avenue in our forward and defence.
If we can get a third ruckman it will only complement us further and provide insurance.
Eeevarn has been recruit of the year for us.
Blair Hartley I applaud you. :clapping :gotigers

I really thought posters on this forum were putting too much faith and pressure on this bloke when we recruited him. I thought he would go ok and maybe be a fill in ruck man until we recruited a big name player. But sheesh I really didn't expect him to perform the way he has. All Australian form at the minute!

Ivan Maric stakes his claim on ruck

    Mark Hayes
    From: Sunday Herald Sun
    May 27, 2012

IN nine short weeks, Ivan Maric has gone from intriguingly mulleted sideshow to bona fide ruck god.

And from no less an inspiration than Chris Newman, it says everything about the ex-Crow that the Richmond captain said he was making a good midfield group look even better.

"He's playing his role, big Ivan, but when you run out with him, you definitely walk a little bit taller," Newman said after Maric pulverised a combination of Jarryd Roughead and David Hale in the ruck in the Tigers' 62-point caning of Hawthorn at the MCG.

Importantly, though, Maric also had 18 incisive disposals, including a goal and classy goal assist in the game's most telling five minutes late in the third term.

"He competes hard, drops back to help out in defence, gives us good use out of the middle and can sneak forward and kick a couple which is really important," Newman said.

"I love playing with him, boys love playing with him, and the supporters certainly love him.

"(In Adelaide) he always had the reputation of a bash-and-crash ruckman who thrived on contest.

"(But) he's grown an extra leg here. He's appreciative that he's been given a second opportunity and the thing I love is that he was so keen from the get-go to come over, and he saw something in the group and wanted to be a part of it."

While the recruit wanted to play selfless team football, Maric himself said his fitness was the catalyst for his starring individual form.

"I've done a full pre-season and I feel, even in the last quarter in the last few weeks, like my running is pretty strong and that I can match it with anyone in the comp," Maric said on 3AW.

That isn't the trend at the moment. The tendency is to snatch an underperforming Ruck from another list or a minor league. I think this policy is the better way to go. Recruiting an 18 year old Ruck is too 'hit-or-miss'.

"He competes hard, drops back to help out in defence, gives us good use out of the middle and can sneak forward and kick a couple which is really important" sums up Maric nicely. The goal in the third term and his goal set up were crucial. He took a great grab in the backline. Good on him. Agree need a good back up Ruckman. Hopefully Vickery develops in that regard.
