Richmond has formed an exciting partnership with US-based elite training academy Athletes’ Performance.

Athletes' Performance provides training, nutrition and physical therapy programs, seamlessly integrated at five facilities across America, by teams of specialists.

The partnership will provide opportunities for the Tigers’ coaches, players and staff to interact with high performance managers, strength and conditioning specialists, dieticians, sports medicine and sports science staff.

As long as they aren't learning to drop like they were shot when someone brushes past them and then roll 30 times across the grass, or learning to cuddle and kiss every time they nearly score, god knows, probably full coitus if they do score..

James Fantasia (Dogs GM of Football Operations) is on the video on the Athlete's Performance website.

Link takes you to an article on the Bulldogs trip to Athletes Performance in December 2008.

"advanced over the rest of the comp"? Hardly.
Paying enough respect to the major issue for a professional spots club? Hopefully.

Pretty much this is what it'll be at this stage. Our boys will have a chance to mingle and interact with elite athletes in the US such as NBA players (who are training currently at the Athletes’ Performance academy due to the lock-out). Discuss with other athletes about their preparation, training and lifestyle (what they eat, drink, etc). All about increasing our professionalism. From memory Cameron said the club is looking into getting a heat room and discussing the worthwhileness of an overseas camp. They are not sure yet about the long-term benefits of a week or two of high-altitude training. Collingwood for instance, on top of the Arizona camp, have a high-altitude room in their Westpac Centre to keep the training ongoing when their players return back to  Melbourne.

Richmond to train in Arizona, but no altitude

    Jon Ralph
    From: Sunday Herald Sun
    September 04, 2011

RICHMOND will head to Arizona for an elite training camp in November, but will leave the high-altitude benefits to rival Collingwood.

The Tigers have signed a formal partnership with Athletes Performance, which runs a world-class training facility in Phoenix.

The club's camp there is another example of Richmond's continuing investment in its football department.

But with the camp running at just over a week, the Tigers do not believe spending the time at high altitude would be beneficial.

The Tigers share the view of many Olympic athletes and fitness experts, who believe spending only short-term periods at altitude provides a lift more psychological than physical.

Collingwood runs two-week camps then maximises its time at altitude by training in its own high-altitude room at the Westpac Centre.

Richmond president Gary March said the camp would allow the list to immerse in cutting-edge training techniques.

"Our entire playing list is going over there in November for just over a week. They do a lot of work with NFL and NBA players and it's a high-performance group we have formed a partnership with," he said.

The Tigers are likely to add a number of development coaches over the off-season, and is keen to add more staff in the football department.

March says the club believes it has the right coach (Damien Hardwick), CEO (Brendon Gale) and head of football (Craig Cameron) and now needs to provide as much support as possible. It could lead to a change in structure of some areas of the football department.

As suspected it seems that it's only a matter of time before March announces an extension of Cameron's five year contract past 2012.
"cutting edge training techniques" Maybe compared to Richmond, not so much with the Bulldogs who went in 2008?

That might explain it too lol. It's still a big coincidence though that Ralph asked the Club about something that was discussed at a journo-free closed forum at Punt Rd  :whistle.
