D-Mac call-up

Richmond has named newcomer Dean Macdonald on its extended interchange bench for Sunday’s final home-and-away round clash with North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

The 19-year-old medium-sized forward, who was the Tigers’ fourth pick (No. 51 overall) in last year’s National Draft, is in line to make his AFL debut following some impressive performances at VFL level with Coburg in recent weeks.

Ben Nason and Matthew White have also been included on Richmond’s extended interchange bench, while Matt Dea has been recalled to the starting 18 after missing last Sunday’s victory over Adelaide because of injury.

Jake King is the only out at this stage, due to the two-match suspension he received earlier this week.

The team will be finalised tomorrow afternoon.

It'll be good to see Macdonald getting a run. It'll give him motivation for a big off-season after giving him a taste of senior footy.

I think we have to give our recruits every possible reason and motivation to continue to develop and fight for a place int he team. A game in the big league would at the very least give McDonald a chance to see how far he has to go to make it and at best give us another future small forward/midfielder option going into next year.

Dea in the starting 18 so he's in. Interesting to see if O'Reilly plays then.

I would've liked to see Contin get a go based on his Coburg form but if MacDonald is given a go instead then at least we are playing the list which is what we should be doing last in the season.

I didn't see him listed in the best players for Coburg but maybe I read the wrong newspaper. Having said that I totally agree that I hope he gets his taste and uses it to build a pre season on.

Good luck to Dean. Would be good if they played him. I hope they don't drop O'Reilly
