Im chuffed with this rookie draft coz I rated O'Hanlon and Gibson. Gibson is the forward pocket that I wanted, aboriginal lad, really quick and shows some nice skills. Hopefully he gets on with the opportunity of playing AFL footy and does his best- has some nice skills IMHO.

sounds good

Richmond has taken talented teenage forward Brett O’Hanlon with its selection in the 2011 AFL pre-season draft held this morning (Tuesday, December 13).

The Tigers, who had pick nine overall, of the 11 selections on offer, opted for the 18-year-old from TAC Cup team Dandenong Stingrays.

O’Hanlon, 189cm and 87kg, had an excellent season, impacting strongly for Dandenong as a medium-sized forward and forcing his way into the Vic Country team at the under-18 national championships.

“Brett is a lead-up forward, who is a strong contested mark and a penetrating left-foot kick. He’s a competitive player, who will always give you a contest and tackle with intent.  And, he’s also a smart player, who reads the ball well and makes good decisions once in possession,” said Richmond’s recruiting manager Francis Jackson.

“We are pleased to add Brett to the playing group and feel that, although he is early in his development phase, he has the scope to become a quality AFL player.”

Perfect 3rd tall type in theory, will hopefully step up and fill the void. I'm a big fan of a quality mid sized fwd, they can help turn games. They can play high HF which opens up the fwd line and if he looks a handful for his opponent(as they are usually on the 3rd or 4th best defender) you can throw them at FF which then forces opposition teams to gamble with the dilemma of taking their best defender off reiwoldt. Goof fwd lines have options.

Miller gets to go home to pia every night so doubt he will care.

Francis Jackson on O'Hanlon:

"He’s a competitive player, who will always give you a contest and tackle with intent.  And, he’s also a smart player, who reads the ball well and makes good decisions once in possession. He also a goalkicker - he kicked 33 goals this year in the TAC Cup. We are pleased to add Brett to the playing group. Although he is early in his development phase, he has the scope to become a quality AFL player.”

Dandenong Stingrays coach Graeme Yeats said O'Hanlon would get the most interest due to his improvements in kicking and fitness over the past season.

"We are confident that of all kids he'll get a rookie spot," Yeats said. "O'Hanlon genuinely showed a lot of improvement last year. He actually won our most improved player award.

"He has good hands and kicks incredibly well, but he is that in-between height of 188-189 centimetres, which doesn't always appeal to clubs."

Inside Football two months ago had O'Hanlon listed as 82kg so someone is wrong.
